Week of 10/25 - 10/29

Hey Panda Family,

We had an awesome week! Fall centers, field trips, Kernersville Chamber of Commerce grant winners, and to top it off - a gifted mental health day on November 12 by our Superintendent. Stay safe in your Halloween festivities and don't forget to spoil yourself with a few pieces of your favorite candy! ๐Ÿฌ

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

November 12 (from district): The Board of Education approved to modify the 2021-2022 academic calendar. We will not have school on Friday, November 12th. It will be a day for students and staff to take care of themselves. Staff and students should focus on their mental health by showing kindness, community, and connection. All employees will receive additional information regarding November 12th soon.

Report Cards: Report cards will go home on Friday, November 5.

iReady Checks: iReady checks are underway! I have checked your student's lesson completion progress for the last three weeks and I am excited to say that we are doing a great job ๐Ÿ˜Š Prioritize time in your schedule for iReady and have your students work towards classroom incentives. Growth is the key!

Flu Shots Rescheduled: Kernersville Pharmacy will be coming to Piney Grove On Monday, November 1 from 7:00-9:00am to give flu shots free of charge to any staff member.

Posting Student Work: We have seen some awesome student work posted in the hallways with "We can" statements (see pics below of a few examples - sorry I couldn't share all of them)! Make sure to show off the amazing work your students are doing! This would be a great task for a parent volunteer :)

LETRS Stipend (from district): Elementary principals, PreK -5th classroom teachers, EC resource teachers, and ESL teachers are well underway with LETRS Unit One! Please carefully review the LETRS Stipend Clarification Guidance document then share with your LETRS participants. WS/FCS LETRS Stipend Clarification Guidance

Field Trips: All field trips for this school year must be submitted by Tuesday, December 21.  There are fewer activity bus drivers.  Dates are filling up fast.  Reach out to Mrs. Gardner if you have questions.

November Drill: We only have the fire drill this month.  It will be held by Friday, November 19.

Media Special: Mr. Younts and Mrs. Epperley are teaming up in the month of November for some exciting STEM lessons!

  • 4-5 will be researching weather and creating Wevideo weather reports using the green screen.  (No chrome books needed this week)

Parent Volunteers: Parents, or family members, are allowed to help you in the classroom or on field trips. Parents must be approved as a volunteer though to help in any capacity with your class. If a parent needs to register as a volunteer they can do so here - WSFCS Volunteers. Please see Ms. Landreth if you have any questions or need assistance.

Book Drive: Do you have new or gently used books for K-5 students? We are partnering with Charlotte Football Club Youth Academy to build home libraries for children in need in our community. Donation box is located at the front of Piney Grove!

Week of 10/18 - 10/22

Hey Panda Family,

We made it through 1st Quarter! It was a fun day to end the quarter with ice pops, glow sticks, and pirates ๐Ÿ˜Š Our students have made tremendous growth through the first nine weeks, and it all started with each of you!

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

RS Workday: Monday, October 25 is an RS Workday (Reserved for Schools). You may work from home or school on this workday. The building will be open during it's normal hours.

Report Cards: Friday, October 22 was the end of 1st Quarter. Report Cards are due to Ms. True by Wednesday, October 27. Elkins, Gardner, and Grubbs will review and sign report cards. Report cards will go home on Friday, November 5.

SIP Goals Vote: Please review the School Improvement Plan goals and vote on their approval. All staff (classified and certified) should vote. The goals and voting survey can be found here - SIP Goal Vote

PBIS Updates & Lunch Schedule: See below for PBIS updates and the cafeteria lunch schedule.
  • Please take time next week to review universal PBIS expectations for playground, cafeteria, etc.
  • Review your classroom expectations.  Practice. Correct.
  • Lunch schedule - 2021-2022 Cafeteria Schedule
  • Lunch video - PBIS Lunch Video
  • The students had a great time at the Glow Stick Dance!
  • November incentive is Paw Store

iReady Class Incentives: A great and easy way to motivate your students to pass their iReady lessons is with classroom incentives. iReady calculates your class lesson completion percentage for each week for both Reading and Math. The goal is 80% or higher for lesson completion. See the awesome class iReady sticker chart that one staff member is using with her students. This is one of many incentive ideas that I know are happening around the building. Students are working towards extra recess, treats donated by room parents, electronic free time, and so much more! Some classes are even doing individual student incentives too for lessons passed. There are so many creative ways you can approach motivating your students to achieve in iReady!

I See, I Think, I Wonder: Here is a link to Ms. Pereda's presentation with the great engagement strategy - I See, I Think, I Wonder
