Week of 9/2 - 9/6

Hey Panda Family,

Week 2 is in the books! We are so proud of the wonderful work that is happening in our building just a few days into the school year. You are ROCK STARS! 😊

Clean & Green Award: We have received the Best Use of Native Plants award from "Keep Winston Beautiful"! Only three schools received this honor. Congratulations to Ms. Adams and all other staff and students that work so hard to keep our campus clean and beautiful!

3rd Grade BOG Test: All 3rd graders will be taking the Beginning of Grade test on Tuesday, September 10. Please remind your classes to be extra quiet in the hallways that morning, as we will have test groups throughout the building.

PDP Sign-Up Sheets: Located outside Ms. Gardner's door and my door. Please sign up for a time slot to review your self-assessment & PDP goals. Please check the Observation Calendar located on the school's PowerSchool page (under NCEES tab) to know if Gardner or Elkins is your observer.

Tardies: We will begin issuing tardies on Monday, September 9. All students should be in their classroom at 8:20. I will be sending out a reminder phone call to all families this weekend.

Eating for Education: The final Eating for Education day is this Wednesday, September 11. Don't cook that evening and eat out at one of the participating locations! This initiative helps fund the Kernersville Chamber of Commerce grants. https://www.kernersvillenc.com/education/

Istation Update (K-3): The school district's called meeting is on Monday, September 9 to discuss the approval of Istation. Hope to know something soon!

Drills: On Wednesday, September 11 starting at 2:30 we will have our evacuation drill from outside to inside and then go into our first lockdown drill.  Please practice the lockdown drill with the kids so they know what to expect and where to go.

Staff Spotlight: Everyone did an amazing job working so hard on your PDP goals on Thursday afternoon! We are excited to read your goals and help you in achieving them this school year.

Wonderful Morning Meetings 😊 - Ms. Laws invited me to her Morning Meeting last week where I was awarded the "I Survived the 1st Week" brag tag! Ms. Panico & Ms. Seely are teaching their new Kindergartners how to properly greet each other with a hand shake, fist bump, or butterfly wave (my favorite). Great job!

Teacher Tuesday Spotlight: Our school Facebook page is highlighting a teacher each week (thanks for organizing this Ms. Jones)! Our first spotlight was Ms. Corlett. Check it out!

District Videos: Please remember to watch the required videos and sign off (Blood-Borne & Safety Data Sheets).  All homeroom teachers need to also watch the Bus Safety video with their class. Ms. Gardner emailed out the links to all videos. The sign-off papers are located on the wall across from Ms. Gardner's office. Please view and sign-off by 9/13/19.

Field Trip Calendar: There’s a master field trip calendar list on the closet door across from Gardner’s office. This is for your information when planning trips. Please do not write on the calendar. This will allow grade levels to see what days already have trips so you avoid those dates.

Lesson Plans: Friendly reminder that Lesson Plans should be posted to the PowerSchool Wiki the first day of each week by 8:00am.

IF Updates

Peer observation: I hope that you are thinking about what you would like to observe a peer doing.  When you are ready, let me know what you would like to see and we will work together to set it up.

However, in the comments section below, please share one thing that made you laugh this week, or a good corny joke that will make us laugh 😂 Have a great weekend!

  4. One of my lovely friends, who puts a smile on my face everyday, said...and I quote “I thought it was a fart but it was more. I jump on the playground fart, I jump on the stairs fart, I just keep fart.” 😂

  5. As some of the Pizzino kinders were gathering red shrimp from a lid to feed the turtles, I noticed one little cutie that kept jumping, squealing, and pulling her hand away with each attempt to pick up the shrimp. The problem: lid was sitting beside the tarantula habitat and Taco was at the front glass next to the lid of shrimp. The kinder was afraid the spider would get her before she could pick the food up and move away. The problem was solved by moving the food, but it was comical to watch.

  6. When I was giving a first grader his high frequency word assessment, he came to word “old.” He became pretty excited and looked at me and said, “I know this word is “old” because I know the song I’m gonna take my horse to the old town road. That word is definitely “old.” He then proceeded to ask, “You know that song, don’t you?” I got a little giggle out of that.

  7. In PE this week we did an activity with the sound of music and I did a slow motion song and they had to do the activity (hand shakes, squats, jumping jacks) in slow motion. It was a great laugh! And then again in fast motion to the chicken dance! It was priceless!

  8. Sharing (contrasting novel tie in) what makes a house a house and a home a home (oh there is a difference). With that said, we laughed with all the things that make a home a home - great love, comfortableness, dropping your cloths on the floor and putting your swim suite on to swim, having ice cream floats at midnight, leaving hand prints on glass doors, and pillow fights!!
