Week of 8/16 - 8/20

Hey Panda Family,

It is wonderful to have our whole Panda Family back together again! Focus your work this week on building meaningful and genuine relationships with your students first and foremost. If the first thing you do on Monday is jump right into procedures and curriculum that will set an unwelcoming tone for your students. Get to know them, do some class team building activities, and show them that you love them 😊 Do this first and you will have much more buy-in when you begin to discuss procedures, expectations, and curriculum!

As always, the Weekly Wrap will be your go to each week for all your important information. Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

Opening Staff Meeting Presentation: 2021-2022 Opening Staff Meeting

Class Dojo: Please make sure you invite Elkins, Gardner, Grubbs, Ceglowski, and all Specialist teachers on your schedule to your Class Dojo.

Canvas Page: Please work to make your Canvas page inviting, friendly, and easy to navigate. Your parents will have access to it through their child's account. It should be a one-stop shop with a teacher bio, lesson plans, schedule, supply lists, etc. If it is important and pertains to your class, then your Canvas page should have it!

Asynchronous Work During Quarantines (from district): If students are absent due to inclement weather, long term sickness, or quarantine, teachers should provide playlists or assignments to continue learning through Canvas.  Since we are not using concurrent teaching practices this year, playlists and other assignments housed in Canvas would provide asynchronous learning and continued practice during extended absences.  If an entire class is quarantined, teachers may want to return to teaching the whole class through Zoom or Teams during the duration of the quarantine.  (Note- A device distribution plan may be needed for K-2.)

Lesson Plans: Please use the first week of school to establish meaningful relationships with your students, review expectations and procedures, and slowly introduce curriculum. On this note, lesson plans in Canvas are not expected until the week of August 30.

Visiting Classrooms: Ms. Gardner and I will be coming by to visit all homeroom classes on the first or second day of school. We just want to say hey, introduce ourselves, and let the kids get to know us a little better. We will be in and out in 5 minutes :)

Schedule: Please post a copy of your class schedule outside your room.

Change in Dates: Please see the following date changes.

  • Proctor training will be Thursday, August 26th @ 11:00 in Jayne's office
    • Postle, Ceglowski, Flynn, Seely, Bolchalk
  • Fire drill will be Friday, August 27th after announcements/car riders

Playground: We are still waiting on the maintenance department to finish the drainage work on our playground. Please keep students off the playground until we give the "all clear".

No Lunch Visitors: Parents are not allowed to eat lunch with their child in the classroom. We will revisit lunch visitors if/when we begin eating in the cafeteria.

Cafeteria Updates: Please make sure you read the email from our cafeteria manager, Ms. Halsey. It was sent earlier this week. Please arrive to the cafeteria on time, and make sure your students speak loud and clear so the cafeteria workers can hear them.

Printer issues?  Refresh/Restart your laptop. If you get an admin log in message, use your information to log in.  Printer should then be available! If you want a new printer added, let Mrs. Epperley know.

3-5 Media Classes:  Next week, all 3-5 students will be trained in the 1:1 Chromebook Plan.  We will go over care and use, logging on and logging in to Nc Edcloud, etc.  We will also discuss taking responsibility for keeping device charged.

3-5: One to One Chromebook Information
  • Day user Chromebooks will be kept in the classroom without cases and need to be charged daily.
  • Parents that want to be in the take home program will need to bring the form to school to pick up the Chromebook.
  • Day users can return the form marking the Opt Out box to receive their Chromebook for the classroom.
  • Media center will be open from 7:50-8:30 all week for parents to come pick up Chromebooks. Also, this is a good time to send students with Opt Out forms.

Staff Quilt: If you haven't finished your Staff Quilt square please do so as soon as possible and return it to Ms. Mason. As you can see in the picture below it is coming along nicely!

Athletic Pass Policy (from district): As we start the 21-22 athletic season, we want to update you on the new athletic pass policy. Beginning this school year, we are asking that employees use their WS/FCS employee ID badge or school issued ID badge for access to all athletic events.

Morning Announcements: Here are the links to the Morning Announcements for this week.

Staff Spotlight: From Ms. Tall - On your first weekly wrap I'd like to give a shout out to Carol Bolchalk. When she noticed I was struggling to complete my room for open house, she stopped what she was doing to help me finish.  I still don't know the reason why she came to my room in the first place, but I am GRATEFUL she stepped in and helped me out!!!
