Week of 1/3 - 1/7

Hey Panda Family,

We hope everyone had a wonderful week back! We saw a lot of good review this week: procedures, behavior expectations, and instruction! We were super proud of our pandas for adjusting to the new arrival procedures in the morning, and thank you to everyone who helped out with morning duties this past week. It was great having our school family back together 🐼

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

iReady Reading Diagnostic: Please make sure that you have hidden the iReady Reading diagnostic for your students. We will begin iReady Reading MOY testing the week of January 17, not when the window opens. This will allow all students to have a full week of iReady practice before taking their MOY assessment.

Core Awards (from Ms. Epperley - SIT Chair): Here are the nominees for the PGE Core Awards for the 2021-2022 school year - PGE Core Award Nominees. Please cast your vote for each category here - Core Awards Voting Ballot. Voting ends at midnight on Tuesday, January 11.

Instructional Round Data - Small Groups: Please review the school-wide data in the PowerPoint attached here - Instructional Round Data. In this PowerPoint you will see the data from our first instructional rounds (scheduling) and the new data that focused on small group instruction. We will be reviewing this data in PLTs this week.

Mid-Year PDP Conferences: The sign-up for Mid-Year PDP meetings is hanging up outside mine and Leslie's office.  Please sign up with me if I do your evaluations & please sign up with Leslie if she does yours. Conferences must be completed before 2/2/2022. Make sure your Mid-Year PDP is updated before we meet. This includes your progress to date on your goals, as well as any artifacts that you want to upload that show evidence towards completion.

Comprehensive & Standard Observations: The 2nd round of observations for certified staff on comprehensive or standard plans must be completed by 2/2/2022.  These will be unannounced.

United Way Updates (from Ms. Ballou): Thank you to everyone who donated to the district United Way fundraiser. We met both of our goals set by the district!

$1577 total - Goal = $1500
37.3% total participation - Goal = 20% participation

Here are the winners of our incentives - Ms. Lindley & Ms. Jones won recess coverage for a day, and Ms. Seely won lunch for her and a friend! Congratulations to our winners and thank you to everyone who donated.

Staff PGE Shirts: We are ordering more of the PGE Staff t-shirts that we gave out at the beginning of the school year. If you would like to order an extra shirt they will be $15 each (cash only). Please pay Ms. Owens. Complete the Google form linked here to place your order - PGE Staff Shirt Order Form

MTSS Coordinator: We have some wonderful news! The school district has allotted us a part-time MTSS Coordinator position to help with student interventions, paperwork, and scheduling. We have hired a wonderful new panda to join our family, Ms. Ashley Balint. Ms. Balint has experience in both Alabama and North Carolina as an EC Resource teacher. She brings a wealth of experience that will fit wonderfully for this role. Ms. Balint will be located in the office across from Ms. Grubbs' room. Her first day is tomorrow, January 10. Please stop by and welcome her to the PGE family!

Message from Ms. Reid (4th Grade): Panda Family, After a lot of thought, I have decided to take Early Retirement as of February 1st.  I regret that I wasn't able to get to know more of you during my brief time here at PGE.  You have a wonderful staff and I hope you all have a great remainder of the year.

We have not shared this news with her class or families yet. We are working to hire another teacher to make for a smooth transition.

Boosterthon- T-shirt: Please complete the form to request your t-shirt. This t-shirt is free.

Morning Announcements: Ms. Ceglowski will email out the Morning Announcements for this week.

Shoutouts: Shoutout to Ms. Ballou for overseeing our United Way fundraiser! Thank you so much! You did a great job promoting this to help us meet our goals.

Shoutout this week goes to a family member and student - Eli Phillips and his dad, Jeremiah, brought their boy scout group to school on Saturday and gave our pergolas beside the track a face lift. They look amazing! Make sure if you see Eli (Sweeney & Adams' class) that you tell him job well done and thank you!

Technology Updates

✔️ 🎟️ Purposeful Exit Tickets: I recently purchased an e-book of Richard Byrne's For your next staff meeting. . .50 Tech Tuesday Tips: Practical tech tips for all teachers. Over the next months, I plan to share some of these tips with you. This week, I am introducing ways to assess your students using purposeful questions along with tools for collecting responses from you students digitally. To access this weeks' article, please click on the link below:

Note, I created the document using Canva (not Canvas). Did you know that Canva is available for both teachers and students? If you want to learn more about Canva and how you can use it in your classroom, let me know.

Items from Previous Weeks

ELA Updates (from district): Please share these ELA updates with teachers.

LETRS
  • Teachers and coaches in the state cohort should be working on their online course on Unit Two. The content in Unit Two is a game changer!
  • January 4th - 6th live virtual sessions will be held for Part One of Unit Two. If you have not done so already, please register in Kickup for a session. Remember, to maintain your credit and stipend documentation you must register in Kickup.
  • We are advocating to provide an increase in your LETRS stipend based on some additional state funds.
MOY mCLASS/DIBELS
  •  If your MOY benchmark window is showing incorrect on your device, please encourage your educators to sync their devices when logging in to mCLASS Assessment. MOY windows have been updated in the mCLASS system but these will not show as updated on teacher devices until a sync has occurred.
  •  It is important to ensure teachers select MOY as the time of year.
  • Invalidations for MOY- please see attached document outlining these changes. DPI and Amplify have changed the process for MOY so that once the district approves the teacher can do the invalidation herself. This will definitely be a more effective process than BOY.
  • MOY window opens January 10th running thru February 1st.
  • Please review the following slides before administering MOY https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1QHyNcEI2KGvaO2BNQOroorKOnn_I4QY9uJhKSCjBZmI/edit?usp=sharing

NC Check-in Testing: Please see the linked testing plans for January 13th and 14th.  Plan is subject to change.  ELA    Math
  • All 3-5 teachers, support staff, and instructional assistants should check their testing credentials before 1/13/2022.  See Gardner if you have questions.

Testing Windows & Dates for PGE: Below are the testing windows for MOY and Q2 Check-Ins. Here are some specifics though for PGE.

  • We will begin iReady Reading MOY testing the week of January 17, not when the window opens. We will turn off the diagnostic until this date. This will allow all students to have a full week of iReady practice before taking their MOY assessment.
  • You may begin mClass testing when the window opens on January 10 if you so choose.
  • January 13th - ELA Check-In (4th, 5th)
  • January 14th - Math Check-In (3rd, 4th, 5th)
  • January 18th - 20th - Makeup testing
