Week of 2/28 - 3/4

Hey Panda Family,

Get your running shoes ready! Our Fun Run is this week and we can't wait to see how many laps our students will run 🏃 Thank you for cheering your class on during their huddles as we work to raise funds for our school! Have fun with your kids this week! We hope to have a lot to celebrate 😊

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

LETRS/Mental Health Trainings Coverage: In an effort to help provide certified staff with some extra time to complete the required district/state trainings we are going to offer Ms. Lloyd's assistance again for the spring semester. All certified teachers that have to complete LETRS/Mental Health Trainings may sign up for one 1/2 day on Ms. Lloyd's schedule to work on their coursework. This is how it will work:

  • Pull up Ms. Lloyd's schedule here - Ms. Lloyd's Schedule
  • Pick one 1/2 day that is available between now and the end of school
  • Write your name and Trainings in the box - i.e. "Cox Trainings"
  • Ms. Lloyd will cover your class for the 1/2 day that you sign up
  • On your day, you will stay on campus and find a quiet space to work on your coursework
    • Teacher workroom, Teacher lounge, etc.
  • If a Covid/Emergency Sub situation occurs and Ms. Lloyd must cancel, you will be able to pick another date and time
  • This is optional, and is not required

MTSS Grade Level Meetings: We will not have scheduled PLTs this week (you will still have PLT coverage). Instead, all grade levels will have a scheduled time to meet with Ms. Balint, our MTSS Coordinator, to update and review plans. These MTSS grade level meetings will occur on Tuesday, March 8th during your Specials time. Here is the schedule:

  • District-wide tornado drill - Wednesday, March 9 @ 9:30.
    • 9:30 a.m.: a Tornado WATCH will be announced. Watches are called for an area when conditions exist for the formation of tornados, but no tornado has yet formed or been sighted. No action is required of employees during a watch.
    • 9:45 a.m.: a Tornado WARNING will be announced. The Tornado Drill will start with this announcement. Warnings are called when a tornado has been sighted nearby. Accordingly, once the warning has been announced, employees are to move immediately to the nearest Tornado Shelter Areas designated for your school. • Each grade level has about $1,600 to spend.
  • Certain field trips have already been approved by the district for these funds (see Gardner for specifics on if your field trip would meet requirements)
Please remember that on and off campus field trips must:
  • be standards aligned that either build background knowledge and/or allow students to participate in culminating learning experiences,
  • meet federal requirements of reasonable and necessary, and
  • include all students (no exclusions for behavior, missing assignments, etc.)
  • When you want to use this specific pot of money, please indicate it on your request.

Media Center Updates (from Ms. Epperley): Please see the Media Center updates below.

PGE Winter Reading Olympics - March 7 is turn in day!
K-2 students can turn in their forms to the media center.  The class with the most minutes will win a freezer pop party during media specials.  3-5 students will fill out a google form for the most pages read.  There will be Gold, Silver, Bronze and Honorable Mention Awards given to each class.
Print Shop! If you need large items printed or special color printing, the print shop has a very quick turn around.  Go to the print shop orders on the WS/FCS employee links to submit your pdf for copying!

Shoutout: Shoutout to Ms. Adams class this week for completing their first debate! Her students did an amazing job!

Shoutout to all K-2 teachers for completing Sound Wall training and working on their Sound Walls! We can't wait to see how these Sound Walls will help our youngest pandas become readers!

Technology Updates

💡 NCTIES Follow-up: On Thursday and Friday of last week, I was at NCTIES in Raleigh. I attended some excellent sessions and cannot wait to start sharing some of the resources and strategies with you and your students. The highlight of the conference was having the opportunity to hear Gerry Brooks who was the opening keynote speaker. Trust me, he did not disappoint those who were in attendance. His motivational speech blended with some of his infamous videos was an inspiration to all. For a moment, he even tugged at my heart strings by inspiring me to go back to the classroom. I'll share more from his speech in the weeks ahead.

⚠️ Google Play Store: I just learned this past week that the district has blocked access to the Google Play Store until 2:30 pm each day. This information was passed along to me from Megan Mayo after Ms. Howell was trying to install a St. Patrick's Day wallpaper on her Promethean panel. So, if you need to install anything from the Play Store, you will need to do it at the end of the day rather than during the school day.

✅ Favorite Things: Please take a few moments to help me get to know you a little better by completing the Favorite Things survey! One thing that I learned from Gerry Brooks is that everyone needs to participate. So, I would like to see 100% participation in the completion of this survey. Thank you in advance for your responses!!!
