Ms. Murray Update: Doris called last week to let us know that they are now home again after a 10 day visit to the hospital that included two different stays in ICU. John was sent home on oxygen. They went in due to his very low blood pressure and difficulty breathing. Please keep Doris and her family in your thoughts and prayers as they continue on this journey.


Ms. Lesley Guffey: Please join me in welcoming Ms. Lesley Guffey as our AIG Catalyst! Ms. Guffey has worked as an AIG and Regular Education Math teacher at Southeast Middle School for the last 14 years. Her upper grades experience will be very beneficial in stretching the minds of our most gifted learners as we develop their critical thinking skills. If you would like to send her a welcome email her email address is: laguffey@wsfcs.k12.nc.us


Preliminary EOG Results: Here are our preliminary EOG proficiency results! Y'all did such AMAZING work! **These results can't be shared with parents or anyone outside of WS/FCS until they are finalized**
  • Math Grades 3-5
    • 61% proficient
    • +17% growth in proficiency as compared to 2020 - 2021
    • 20% higher than the overall district average
  • Reading Grades 3-5
    • 56% proficient
    • +5% growth in proficiency as compared to 2020 - 2021
    • 16% higher than the overall district average
  • Science Grade 5
    • 86% proficient 
    • +20% growth in proficiency as compared to 2020 - 2021
    • 29% higher than the overall district average

LETRS Training Tomorrow: You may complete your LETRS training from home if you so choose. The building will be open all week for you to access your classroom if needed. 


LETRS (June 14 or June 15): If your all-day LETRS training is on June 14 or June 15, I am giving you permission to take the day off on June 13. Please complete a White Sheet indicating that you will be out on June 13 but plan to work on June 14 or 15 to complete LETRS. I ask that you please don't promote this with your friends at other schools - I am making this executive decision for our school based on what I believe is fair. Thanks! 


Archive Class Dojo: Please make sure to archive your class in Dojo. Here are the instructions. 

  1. Click the cog in the top right corner of the class icon. 
  2. Click on "finish class."
  3. Keep it on "archive" class and click "done" (with the exception of fifth grade which can "graduate" class).




Key Turn-In: A new item on the EOY Staff Checklist is the Key Return for this year. District wants us to do a full inventory of all our keys over the summer. Ashley will be working on this. Please make sure you turn in all your keys to her before you leave for the summer. When we are done with the inventory check we will let you know so you can come pick up your keys if you so choose :)

    • Mr. Elkins would like the folders completed by Thursday, June 2. You can turn your folders into Ms. Balint when they are complete.

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:



Ms. Tammy Barnes: Please join me in welcoming Ms. Tammy Barnes to 3rd grade for next school year! Ms. Barnes currently works at Old Town Elementary. She has previous experience teaching 3rd grade and I believe she will be a wonderful addition to our school and the 3rd grade team. If you would like to send her a welcome email her email address is: tbarnes@wsfcs.k12.nc.us


Ms. Janet Sherrill: Please continue to keep Ms. Sherrill in your thoughts and prayers. As most of you know, she has been out recovering from a bad broken ankle. She continues to stay positive, and she will be back with us next year. We wish you the best in your recovery, Janet! 


EOG Test Makeups: EOG Test Plans for make-ups (click here) - this has changed since Friday.  Please read carefully. Ms. Gardner will send changes as needed to those that it effects. Reach out to Ms. Gardner if you have questions. 


Staff Dinner: Just a friendly reminder that if you signed up for the staff dinner at Gypsy Road it will be this Monday, June 6 @ 6:00. Here is the address for Gypsy Road: 1105 E Mountain St, Kernersville, NC 27284. See you there! 


Laugh Factory Assembly (June 8): PTA is sponsoring a fun assembly for all students on Wednesday, June 8. The assembly is called "Laugh Factory". PreK - 2nd grade will have their assembly @ 9:00. 3rd - 5th grade will have their assembly @ 10:00. This will be located in the gym. 


PBIS Water Day (June 8): Here are all the details for PBIS water day. PBIS - Water Day Schedule (click here)
  • No specials on June 8th
  • Schedule:

    11:00-11:45 K (71 students)/2nd (111 students)

    12:00-12:45 1st (79 students)/5th (72 students)/Vaden (18 students)

    1:30 - 2:15 3rd-Vaden (64 students)/4th (87 students)


Roller Skating Incentive (June 9): Students are able to earn the roller skating incentive if they accomplished one of the following:
  • K-2
    • Blue composite in Mclass, or they showed at least one point of growth from MOY-EOY
  • 3rd grade
    • Passed the BOG, passed the EOG in Reading or Math, showed growth from BOG-EOG in Reading, or scored a higher percentile in Math than they did in Reading
  • 4th grade
    • Passed the EOG in Reading or Math, or showed growth in either Reading or Math (only need to show growth in one to qualify)
  • 5th grade
    • Passed the EOG in Reading or Math or Science, or showed growth in either Reading or Math (only need to show growth in one to qualify)
This is our first year doing EOY incentives, so thank you for your patience as we have learned and adjusted the qualifying measures some to try and motivate our kids to succeed. Below you will find the skating schedule and electronic permission slip. Please send Mr. Elkins an email if you have students that have not qualified to go. 


  • Each grade level will have one hour to skate 

  • All teachers and IAs for each grade level will help chaperone

  • Times may vary slightly based on traffic 

  • 2 buses; going back and forth 

  • Regular lunch schedule



Creating Class Rosters for 2022-2023: We need to meet with Kinder-4th grade this Friday, June 10 in Room 126 to work on creating class rosters for next school year. We will be working on student placement cards this week. Here is the schedule for this Friday, June 10 in Room 126:

8:00 - Kindergarten
9:00 - 1st Grade
10:00 - 2nd Grade
11:00 - 3rd Grade 
12:00 - 4th Grade


Sunset Slush: Mr. Rubley and Reel Realty will be treating the staff to Sunset Slush this Friday, June 10 from 11:00 - 12:30. They will be set up in the main lobby! What a fun treat!

Awards Day: Please make sure all students in your class receive an award or superlative on Awards Day. All students deserve to be celebrated. The only award I would like all grades to distribute is the "Math Fact Golden Paw" award - this award will go to those students who have earned their Golden Paw in our school-wide math fact fluency initiative.  


PLTs: Kindergarten, 1st grade, & 2nd grade will have PLTs this week. This will be the last PLT for these grade levels. 
 

Media Center Updates (from Ms. Epperley): Here are your updates for the week! 

  • Student library book notices go home on Monday.

  • Important Chromebook Information:
  • The district has decided that any student that is a Take Home user, will take their Chromebook home for the summer.  Day Users will remain in your classroom.  You may pack them up in a secure place.  Use this spreadsheet if you are unsure. 
  • If you need us to check your Chromebooks to make sure they are going home with the correct person, just let us know.

Morning Announcements: Morning Announcements will be old school over the intercom for the remainder of the year. 



Shoutout: Shoutout to everyone for their help with EOG testing! Everyone worked so well together as a team. Thank you to Ms. Gardner for her leadership through all of testing!

Grade Level Awards Celebrations Dates/Times: The SCC representatives worked together to determine when each grade level's award celebrations would be. All celebrations will occur in the gym. Here is the schedule:

Thursday, June 2 @ 10:00 - 1st Grade
Thursday, June 2 @ 11:30 - Kindergarten
Monday, June 6 @ 8:30 - 4th Grade
Monday, June 6 @ 10:00 - 2nd Grade
Monday, June 6 @ 11:30 - 3rd Grade
Tuesday, June 7 @ 10:00 - 5th Grade


End-of-Year PDP/Summative Conferences (Certified Staff): Beginning this week you will be able to sign up for a day/time to meet so we can review your end-of-year PDP as well as your summative evaluationYou should have your PDP completed and all artifacts uploaded before the meeting.  The sign-up sheet will be outside Mr. Elkins' and Ms. Gardner's door. Please sign up with the admin that observes you. (Side note: We understand that some of you still have observations that need to be complete, we are just getting these meetings scheduled. Also, Ms. Gardner would like to have her meetings complete by May 13 so they don't interfere with EOG testing.)



LETRS/Mental Health Trainings Coverage: In an effort to help provide certified staff with some extra time to complete the required district/state trainings we are going to offer Ms. Lloyd's assistance again for the spring semester. All certified teachers that have to complete LETRS/Mental Health Trainings may sign up for one 1/2 day on Ms. Lloyd's schedule to work on their coursework. This is how it will work:

  • Pull up Ms. Lloyd's schedule here - Ms. Lloyd's Schedule
  • Pick one 1/2 day that is available between now and the end of school
  • Write your name and Trainings in the box - i.e. "Cox Trainings"
  • Ms. Lloyd will cover your class for the 1/2 day that you sign up
  • On your day, you will stay on campus and find a quiet space to work on your coursework
    • Teacher workroom, Teacher lounge, etc. 
  • If a Covid/Emergency Sub situation occurs and Ms. Lloyd must cancel, you will be able to pick another date and time
  • This is optional, and is not required
