Week of December 11 - 15

Hey Panda Family,


We made it! We wish you and your family a Happy Holidays! If you need anything over the break please don't hesitate to reach out. I am so proud of everything we accomplished in 2023. I can't wait to tackle 2024 with you! 🐼 Enjoy your break! You deserve it! 

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:


New Updates

RT Days: December 18, 19, and 20 are RT workdays. If you have any questions about if you are expected to work please refer to the chart that was sent by Human Resources or reach out to myself or Ms. Owens. 

  • The front office will be open December 18-20 from 8:00-3:00
  • The building will close at 3:00 on December 18, but remain open until 5:00 December 19 and 20. 
  • The building will be closed from December 21 to January 1.  It will open at 8:00 on January 2, 2024.

Energy Conservation Form (from district): All teachers have a form in their box titled "Energy Conservation Program". Please complete the tasks on this form before you leave for break and tape the form outside your room. Thanks!


PLTs: We will pick back up with PLTs the first day back (1/3/2024). It is important we meet so we can review all MOY dates together before MOY testing begins. 


MOY & Check-In Dates: Please refer to the list of MOY and NC Check-In dates below. Please mark your calendar.
  • Mclass/Dibels MOY (K-4): January 10 - February 6
    • Kindergarten begins on January 10
    • Grades 1-3 begin January 22 
  • iReady Reading MOY (K-5): Complete the week of January 8-12 
  • iReady Math MOY (K-5): Complete the week of January 16-19
  • 2nd grade CogAT - January 17, 18, and 19 
  • ELA Check-In (3-5): January 30
  • Math Check-In (grades 3, 4):  February 1
  • Science Check-In (5th only): February 1
  • Math Check-In Grade 5: February 22 

WS/FCS Staff Badge (from Ms. Owens): We have received our new ID badges for all staff members who had their picture taken in the fall.  These can be used to enter the building in place of a key.  You will still need individual room keys for your classrooms. There is an "Acknowledgement of Receipt" form that has to be filled out by each employee before I can give your badge.  The forms and badges are in my office so stop by when you get a chance. If you did not have your picture taken, I am working on figuring out how to get you a badge.


MTSS Updates: Please see updates below. 

Instructional Updates: Please see below. 
  • K-2 math assessments need to be completed between January 16 - 24, 2024.  
    • This is not high stakes testing. 
    •  All materials will be put in your mailbox next week. 

Updated IEP Notes Document: Please use the link below when you take notes during an IEP meeting.  It will force you to make a copy of the notes form. 


December Drill: Fire drill only (January 5 @ 9:00)


Core Award Nominations (today is the last day to nominate): It is time to nominate for the 2023-2024 Piney Grove Core Awards.  There are four awards: 
  • Teacher of the Year 

  • Classified Employee of the Year

  • Certified Instructional Support Person of the Year

  • Volunteer of the Year

Please use the links below to nominate individuals for these awards.  There are explanations listed on each Google Form.  We will have nominations open until December 15th at 4:00pm.  There will be voting links for each position when we return in January.  Please see Mrs. Jessica Bowman or Mrs. Catherine Gant if you have any questions.

Updates from Previous Week

Teleworking Agreement (Certified Staff Only): In order for Certified Staff to work virtually from home on the RT workdays, you need to complete the district Teleworking Agreement Form. I have placed a Teleworking Agreement Form in each Certified Staff members box. Please complete the highlighted areas of the form and return it signed to Mr. Elkins' box. This needs to be completed before the RT workdays on December 18-20. 


December Workdays: December 18, 19, 20 are assigned as RT Workdays. We have nothing scheduled for these days. All certified staff may choose to work from home, school, or take Annual Leave on these workdays. If you choose to take Annual Leave please complete a white sheet leave form. Classified staff does not work on these workdays.  


PBIS Updates: Please see the updates below from the PBIS committee. 
  • Plan to reteach all procedures when we return on 1/3/2024. 
  • Remember to teach Code lesson #7 when we return from winter break

Panda Family Bingo: Thank you for distributing the Panda Family Bingo cards in the Friday Folders. If you need any additional cards please see Ms. Ceglowski. When a student returns a completed Bingo Card please place it in Ms. Ceglowski's box. 


Goldie Reading Program: Now that just about every student has met Goldie, the Golden Retriever,  we are going to start a reading program with her.  Studies show that reading to a therapy dog increases confidence in struggling readers.  If you have a student who seems to be lacking confidence or seems to be ready to give up on reading, please add them to this form to get a time slot reading to Goldie weekly.   https://forms.gle/q4FmLHNJvAj9CZBLA


iReady Lesson Prizes: Outside of the Media Center is our iReady Lesson Tracker bulletin board. When a grade level hits 2,000 completed lessons in both Reading and Math they will earn their first grade level prize. Please talk this up with your students to motivate them.

  • Ceglowski and Gardner are in the middle of the meetings for Tier 3.  Thank you for your patience as we work through everything. 
  • Current Tier 2 plans will be reviewed during PLT's the week of December 4th.  Bring your data to the meeting. 
  • We will not start any NEW Tier 2 plans until after Winter Break. 
  • Mrs. Kaye Edwards will be off campus on December 11th, 13th and 14th.
