Hoods in the Classroom: A couple of weeks ago I relayed a message on the morning announcements about students not wearing hoods in the building, and how I would begin taking their hoodies. To date, the students have done real well with this in the hallways and I appreciate y'all's help and support (I have only had to take one hoodie since we aired the announcement). I am still seeing quite a few of our older students wear hoods in the classroom though. I don't want to interrupt your instruction to address it, so I am asking for your help in the classroom so we are a unified voice. To me, it just shows respect for you and our school to not wear them in the building. Thank you so much for your help with this. I will be doing another message on the announcements soon as another gentle reminder to the students. Thanks!

iReady Weekly Completion: We have started tracking iReady weekly progress again now that we are past MOY testing. Remember, the priority is that each student works to pass at least one lesson per week in both Reading and Math.

iReady Resources: Click on the links below to access some iReady data resources.

  • Encourage teachers to use these worksheets that will help them action plan for differentiated instruction that supports grade-level learning.

Pennies for Pandas: Thank you to everyone for helping us collect coins for some of our panda families in need! PTA will tally them up and we will announce the grade level winner next week 😊

Drive-By Parade for Sammy: Samantha Kiger is home 🙌 Some of her friends and family have scheduled a drive-by parade for her tomorrow, Saturday, February 18 @ 1:00. My directions in last week's WW were a little off. We will all meet here at Piney Grove at 12:45 and then drive by her house to wave to her, drop off letters, and share any encouraging signs/posters. If you would like to participate please be here by 12:45 tomorrow.

Shout-out from Ms. McCracken - Thank you so much to Ms. Guffey for your leadership through the CogAt process! You have been awesome!

Important Items from Last Week

Second Step Lessons: At this point in the school year your class should be at least through 10 of the Second Step lessons. If you are a little behind, that is okay. These lessons create wonderful dialogue for Morning Meetings and to help build our student's social and emotional competence. Remember, there are 20 total lessons that need to be completed by the end of the school year. Please make sure to mark the lesson complete when you finish it, so it shows completed on my end. Thanks!

February Drills: We only have the fire drill this month. It will be unannounced.

Fire Marshall: Our 2nd inspection will happen any day now.
  • Please ensure your back door is not blocked (5-6 floor squares).
  • Extra desks in the hallway should be brought into a classroom until after the inspection.

Black History Month: Here are some wonderful resources provided by our district to celebrate Black History Month. See the resources below.

  • Please complete by Feb 28, 2023

  • May do virtual or in-person
  • Will begin retention discussions at this time
