Hey Panda Family,
I am seeing and feeling the progress day by day! We had another wonderful week filled with a milestone birthday, a fun symphony concert for our 4th & 5th graders, an in-school field trip, and lots of hard work in the classroom. If you didn't see the Dojo or Facebook post, we also got to publicly celebrate our school report card achievements where we continue to be the highest graded school in Kernersville. This is all because of your hard work and dedication. Thanks for all you do! Have a wonderful weekend 😊
Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates
EC Inclusive Meetings (Certified Staff Only): As most of you know, we are one of 16 elementary schools the district has chosen to work towards a more inclusive environment for all children, specifically our most high needs exceptional children students. One of the results of this was the closing of our self-contained EC classroom at the end of last school year. Each month at these 16 schools, the EC Department will be holding short meetings to go over progress, provide strategies, and to implement bite-size PD to support this work. If you are a certified staff member, you must attend one of these monthly meetings. The first meeting will be this upcoming Tuesday, September 10. The meeting will last roughly 35-40 minutes and will be held in the Media Center. Please select the meeting time that best fits your schedule. Here are the meeting times (you only need to attend one):
8:30
9:20
10:10
11:00
12:00
12:45
1:30
The only thing you need to bring to this meeting is your calendar and an open mind. Thank you for your hard work to best support all of our pandas!
Spirit Week Next Week: Join in the Spirit Week fun next week! See the graphic below for the daily events.
PBIS Kickoff Assemblies: To conclude Spirit Week we will have our PBIS Kickoff Assemblies next Friday, September 13. Please mark your calendar. Here are the times:
- Kinder - 2nd Grade @ 8:45 in the Gym
- 3rd - 5th Grade @ 9:45 in the Gym
Go Far (from Ms. Fox): GoFar practice starts Wednesday, September 11. GoFar practice will be every Monday and Wednesday. I will be emailing a list of GoFar participants to all teachers on Monday so teachers are aware for afternoon dismissal.
Progress Reports: Progress reports will go home next Friday, September 13. Please make sure you are inputting your grades.
Media Updates (from Ms. Epperley): Please see the media resources below.
Thematic Collaboration opportunity: Need to meet your PDP goal? Your media specialist is available to co-plan and co-teach in your classroom. Just let me know and we can make it happen! Use your core books or any other standard.
Restorative Circles (from Ms. Ceglowski): Circle Keepers Peer Mediation is ready to accept referrals! We have an amazing group of 12 - 5th graders who were trained last Spring in conflict resolution and peer mediation. If a conflict brews in your classroom that is taking time away from student learning, please make a referral by sending me an email. Let the parents know you are referring to peer mediation and let them contact me if they have any questions. I'll need basic information about what is going on and student names. Also share a good time to pull the students.
Appropriate referrals include:
Party/sleepover drama spilling into school
Someone is feeling left out on purpose
A dispute over recess game (He never admits when he is out and won't leave the game/He always calls me out when I am not)
Group work gone wrong - someone did it all or someone did nothing.
Name calling or rumors run wild
Inappropriate referrals include:
Bullying - refer to me but not for Circle Keepers
Family issues
Any inappropriate touching
Physical fighting (this could be a referral after handled by admin)
Anything with sensitive information that does not need to be handled by 5th graders.
Any adults interested in helping out with the Circle Keepers, please see Mrs. Ceglowski. Help is always appreciated!!!
Picture Day (Monday, September 16): Picture Day is Monday, September 16 in the Media Center. Please mark your calendar. Here is a link to the schedule - Fall Picture Day Schedule

Morning Announcements: Student video announcements are back! Ms. Guffey will be sending out the announcement links via email for next week.
Political Activities in Schools (from our Legal Department): Principals were asked to share this information with staff as we near election season. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.
As we approach the election season, we want to remind schools about the limitations on political activity in schools. As publicly funded institutions, we cannot use public dollars to advocate for or against political issues or referendums. Additionally, school employees are not allowed to engage in certain political activities during their workday, which may include times falling outside of the regular school day, such as during extra-curricular activities or other before/after school activities. Those activities include, but are not limited to:
- actively campaigning or soliciting the support of others for any candidate for public office
- using their position to promote or solicit contributions for political campaigns
- distributing or displaying campaign literature (other than a bumper sticker on a personal vehicle) or signs for or against a particular candidate
- using the WS/FCS, school or department mail or email systems, computers or other equipment or resources for political campaign activities.
- Soliciting volunteers to assist with a campaign for or against a candidate or partisan political activities (e.g., an email from a campaign representative asking you to recommend student volunteers to work on his/her campaign).
Shout-Outs 🎉: From Ms. Rempe - Thank you Sandy for helping Aria get to her bus this week :)
Updates from Last Week
Committee Minutes (from SIT): In an effort to make sure everyone is receiving the same information from committees, we are going to post the minutes from each committee meeting in the Weekly Wrap. That cuts out the middle man for departments/grade levels. One less thing for the rep to do and everyone hears the same info.
To make this even easier for everyone, we made copies of the minutes form we use at SIT. We use the same document for the entire year and add the newest meeting to the top, like we do PLT agendas. All the minutes will be accessible to everyone whenever they are needed. Please have whoever takes minutes for your committee use your form for 2024-2025. We added the committee chairs as editors so you can then share with whoever is your notetaker.
We're hoping this helps with communication throughout the building and takes one thing away from committee reps. Please let Ms. Gant know if you have any questions or trouble with the forms. Thanks!
PTA Dues & Hospitality Dues: We hope everyone will pay their PTA & Hospitality dues. We are shooting for 100% participation. Here are the links:
Parent Communication Log: When you have completed your Parent Communication Log please turn it in to Mr. Elkins. Here are the bullet point reminders:
Here is a copy of the log - Parent Communication Log
By the end of September, teachers should have contacted all parents with a positive Dojo message or phone call
If parent does not respond, try another form of communication (phone call, email)
All students should receive a Pandagram home during the 1st quarter
Turn in log by 9/27/2024
Links from August Staff Meeting: As promised, here are the links from the staff meeting presentations. Please feel free to use any of this information with your students.
IEP Minutes Document: Teachers will continue to take minutes during IEP meetings.
- Please delete verbs and suggested phrases from the document at the end of the meeting.
