Week of 1/5 - 1/9

Hey Panda Family,

What are you going to do to make the second half of the school year great? We want every student to leave in May saying this was the "best year ever"! What can we do to make this happen? As you ponder these questions I hope you will find opportunities over these next two quarters to explore new ways to engage the students, challenge their thinking, and help them reach their goals. If something is working, keep doing it. If you are struggling in an area, try a new approach. There are great things to come for the remainder of this year and I am excited for us to experience them together! 🐼

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

ACCESS Testing: We will begin ACCESS testing next week. Mrs. Pereda will complete the testing. Please do not send her regular groups unless she sends for the students.

Proctors: Flynn, Bowman, Seely, Idol, Vermilyea, Postle, Russell

Please don't hesitate to contact Ms. Guffey with any questions or concerns.

NC Check-Ins: We will have the Math Check-In #2 on Tuesday, January 13 for 3rd and 4th grade. You may pick up your materials in the morning in Ms. Guffey's room (126). Refer to the Testing Plan (you must be logged into your WSFCS account to view) for logistics.

Testers: 3rd and 4th grade teachers, Idol, Seely, Landis, Barnes, Russell, Postle, Flynn

Students in pull-out locations will return to their classrooms when their testing session is completed. There will be a cart between the 3rd and 4th-grade hallways with extra paper, mice, and headphones. Please make sure all Chromebooks are charged for testing. Email Ms. Guffey with any questions or concerns.

CORE Awards Nominations: It is time to nominate for the 2025-2026 Piney Grove Core Awards.  There are four awards:

  • Teacher of the Year

  • Classified Employee of the Year

  • Certified Instructional Support Personnel of the Year

  • Volunteer of the Year

Please use the links below to nominate individuals for these awards.  There are explanations listed on each Google Form.  Access to the forms are through your WSFCS account.  You won't be able to access the form through personal google accounts.

Core Awards have changed this year.  School Counselors, Psychologists, and Social Workers have their own categories this year.  Anyone can nominate for those positions.  The links were send out last week by the district.  That limits the candidates for the Certified Instructional Support Personnel of the Year (especially for our school).

In the past, I have been asked for information on who is eligible for specific roles. This spreadsheet has everyone listed under their correct category.  There are three sheets.  Click the tab at the bottom to go between the categories.  Our custodial staff is no longer employee by WSFCS so they are not listed.  Child Nutrition does their own nominations, so cafeteria staff is not included either.  Beginning Teachers are not eligible.  Staff have to have been in the position for 2 full years. Grade level/school switches are fine.

We will have nominations open until Sunday, January 11th at 4:00pm.  Voting links will be sent after nominations are collected.  Please let me know if you have any questions.  Thank you!!!!

Baby Shower: Please join us on Wednesday, January 14 @ 3:30 in the Media Center to celebrate Ms. Salimeno and the new addition to her family! Here is a link to her registry: Salimeno Baby Shower Registry

Classroom Guidance: Here is the Booking page for quarter 3 Classroom Guidance.  Please sign up for a time for Ms. Ceglowski to come and visit your class by clicking here.

Field Day: We had to adjust the date for Field Day. The new Field Day date is April 24. Please mark your calendar.

100th Day of School: The 100th Day of School changed from January 26 to January 27 due to school closed on 12/5. Please mark your calendar accordingly.

Scott Rempe: Scott Rempe has been added to our Sub List. His number is 336-408-6842. He did a great job subbing in Art this week!

Gardner's January Schedule: Gardner's schedule for January - HERE

HB 805 Book Scanning (from Ms. Epperley): If you are scanning your classroom library, you do not need to add ELA books from the district.  That information has already been added to the spreadsheet. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to Ms. Epperley.

SCC Seasonal Gathering DATE CHANGE (from Ms. Mabe & Ms. Mathis): We are having to alter the date for our night out at Stock and Grain.  It appears that there is no longer the option of a band Friday night so we are adjusting to Saturday instead.  There is an acoustic rock band, Flannel, performing from 8:00-11:00 that evening. Please mark your calendar for SATURDAY, January 17, 2026, to join us at Stock and Grain at 6:30 p.m. in High Point. If you have already responded to the google doc, I have changed the settings so that you can change your response if needed. Thank you for your patience and we apologize for the confusion. If you plan to attend, please fill out this form so we know how many people to expect and how many tables to reserve - Stock and Grain Event Form.

Mclass Progress Monitoring: Progress monitoring will be paused in January during MOY testing. Here is the link to the progress monitoring calendar: Mclass Progress Monitoring Schedule

HB 805: A new state law has been passed that now requires us to catalog our classroom libraries and provide these lists to parents if they ask. Here is the information principals received - House Bill 805. MTAC has shared some very easy steps to accomplish this task. I know this is not ideal, and somewhat of a hassle, but we have to do it (sorry). We will discuss it more in PLTs if you have questions. Here is a link to the directions if you want to go ahead and knock it out - Catalog Your Classroom LibraryIf you would like a volunteer to help catalog your classroom library for you please complete this form - Request for a Volunteer to help catalog.
