Hey Panda Family,
Mental Health Training: The State is requiring select positions to complete a variety of mental health trainings. We are working to create time during your scheduled work hours for you to complete the trainings. Please do not fret about these trainings. We are going to help you. This is what we have received from the district so far:
NC General Assembly Law 2020-7 and the NC State Board School-Based Mental Health
Policy require PSUs to develop a mental health training program. This training is
required for the following school personnel in WS/FCS: principals, asst. principals,
teachers, counselors, psychologists, social workers, and CFST nurses.
See here for amended information on the WS/FCS Mental Health Training Program,
including courses and information on how they can be accessed. Modules are to be
completed by May 31, 2022.
Boosterthon: This year PTA randomly surveyed a handful of teachers and spoke with administration to get fundraiser ideas for Boosterthon. The ideas they are promoting are a fully furnished news room for our 5th grade news team, a sensory room to help our counseling department, musical/sensory additions to the playground, resurfacing both blacktops and painting a movement course, new basketball court, and four square. Here are the links to the videos from this week's staff meeting. Please make sure you register.
- Have teachers watch this video
- This takes place of the formal teacher meeting
- Here's a video to help teachers register
- Here's a video to help teachers navigate their dashboard
- Have students watch this video on 2/28 (we will watch as a school at 2:40 on 2/28)
- K-2 grades
- 3-5 grades
- These take the place of the pep rally
Student Discipline: Over the past few weeks we have seen a major uptick in office discipline referrals. In an effort to help mitigate these issues, please review class and school expectations for behavior in your Morning Meetings this week. Students should know your expectations, and if they are not following them please make sure you issue PAW forms and follow-up with parents via Dojo or phone calls. Hopefully by reviewing the PBIS expectations we can reduce the number of referrals and help eliminate behavior disruptions in your classroom. One suggestion - please make sure to separate students at recess and lunch that may cause issues with each other. The non-structured times are when we normally see the most issues. However, if you ever do have the need for an office referral we are always here to help!
Classroom Trashcans & Student Chairs: We have been working diligently with SMO and our maintenance department to improve the cleanliness of our building. In an effort to improve efficiency, please help our cleaning crew by placing classroom trashcans outside your room at the end of the day and have students place chairs on top of their table/desk before they leave. These are both great tasks/jobs to assign students. Thank you!
Covid Updates: Here are the latest Covid updates from the district.
- No changes to staff or students that test POSITIVE
- Students deemed as "close contacts" (school, home, or community) will no longer be required to exclude from school as long as they are symptom-free
- Parents will be notified when deemed a close contact from a positive case at school, but will not be required to exclude from school as long as they are symptom-free
- Students that are "symptomatic" and sent home from school will need a negative PCR test or alternate diagnosis to return.
Wooden Loft (from SCC): We have tables reserved for us on Thursday, February 24 at the Wooden Loft in Kernersville. If you are interested in joining in on the fun, please follow the instructions below to sign up and choose your project. Please reach out to Ms. Mathis if you have any questions.
Morning Announcements: Ms. Ceglowski will email out the student video announcement links.
Shoutout: From Mr. Collins - A big shoutout to Ms. Keller's class for showing kindness and inclusion to a friend at the playground this past week!

Mid-Year Parent Conferences: Just like we have done in year's past, we would like all PreK - 5th grade teachers to complete Mid-Year Parent conferences with all of your families. The primary focus of this conference should be to review MOY results, discuss behavior concerns/successes, and to set a positive tone with each family for the remainder of the school year (make sure to always start each conference with something positive and end with something positive). These conferences should be brief and most will last 10-15 minutes. You may schedule them in-person, over the phone, or through Zoom (your choice). Please have these conferences completed no later than Friday, February 25. When you have completed all of your Mid-Year conferences please complete this Google form to let us know - Mid-Year Parent Conferences Completed. Thanks!
