Hey Panda Family,
The first day of school is right around the corner! Have fun this upcoming week with your students: get to know them, let them get to know you, establish your classroom expectations, play games, laugh, set routines, review procedures, but most importantly begin building your classroom community! Let's make this the best year yet! 🐼
Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:
Opening Staff Meeting Presentation: Here is a link to the Opening Staff Meeting Presentation - Opening Staff Meeting Presentation
Staff Handbook: Please make sure to review and sign off on the Staff Handbook. The sign off is located at the bottom of the handbook. Thanks!
PLTs: We will formally begin meeting for PLTs the week of September 12. However, Specialists will begin coming to cover for PLTs the week of September 6. We want to use the week of September 6 as a practice week where the Specialists will work with you to go over procedures and dismissal for PLT coverage.
Sub List: Here is the most up-to-date substitute list, Pam Mason's availability, and the direct link to Frontline. Please use these resources to find a sub in case you have to be out. Please reach out to Ms. Owens if you have any questions.
COVID Updates: Beginning September 1, there are new Covid protocols regarding staff members. If you have symptoms of Covid and have to be out, there are certain new guidelines that must be followed in order to be compensated for your days out. All staff will have to have a Lab Reported Test. You may choose one of the following places to test that is listed below:
Covid test at school performed by Sharon Landreth
Walgreens
CVS
Drive in clinic
Doctor's office
If you have any further questions, feel free to see Sharon. She is our Covid Coordinator this school year.
PTA & Hospitality: Please make sure you join PTA & pay your Hospitality dues.
Field Trips (from Ms. Gardner): I have several requests for field trips. Please get the completed paper to me as soon as possible (linked in Opening Presentation). I anticipate dates being blocked off soon. Please see below for information regarding field trip funds that have been provided to each school from the district (last school year).
- We have an ESSER Field Trips allocation available this school year and next to support learning recovery efforts. We have roughly $10,000 to spend between this year and next year.
- Each grade level has about $1,600 to spend.
- Certain field trips have already been approved by the district for these funds (email Owens for additional paperwork that must be completed).
Please remember that on and off campus field trips must:
- be standards aligned that either build background knowledge and/or allow students to participate in culminating learning experiences,
- meet federal requirements of reasonable and necessary, and
- include all students (no exclusions for behavior, missing assignments, etc.)
- When you want to use this specific pot of money, please indicate it on your request.
Unopened breakfast items: Tracey is checking to see if we are allowed to have a cart.
Code of Conduct: Please see all the important Code of Conduct documents linked below.
Nurse Extender & Officer Probst: This school year we will have additional nurse help throughout the week and a resource officer (Officer Probst) that will support our school a couple days a week. Our nurse extender is Jamie Sult. I plan to have both of them go around to each classroom this week and introduce themselves to you and your students.
Morning Announcements: Mr. Elkins will do Morning Announcements over the intercom for the first week of school. We will begin our video student news the second week of school.
Second Step Training (from Ms. Ceglowski): Classroom teachers should have received an email inviting you to join the Second Step SEL program. Please accept the invitation and set up an account. I will be attending PLTs the week of September 19th to help you navigate the site and answer any questions you may have. We will be integrating these lessons into Morning Meetings. Please feel free to jump right in and play with it if you feel comfortable. It is a user-friendly program. If you did not get an invite, please send an email to Mrs. Ceglowski at jceglowski@wsfcs.k12.nc.us and she will add you. Have fun exploring this awesome SEL resource!
AIG/LIFT Sign-Up: Please make sure you sign your class up for a time with Ms. Guffey, our AIG Catalyst. She will be doing class lessons with all K-5 classes during the first two weeks of school. You can sign up here - AIG/LIFT Sign-ups
Testing Security Protocols & Procedures (from Ms. Lloyd): As part of the new Testing Security Protocol and Procedures all Test Administrators are required to take the online course. You will need a current NCTest log on. Here is a link to the course: https://center.ncsu.edu/training/
When you complete the course, a certificate will pop up that you will need to print and give to Ms. Lloyd. I do NOT have access to print your certificates, so you will need to print them. (They don't print pretty, but that is ok!)
This will need to be completed by 9/7!
Here is a link to the manual:
Please let Ms. Lloyd know if you have any questions.
Media Updates (from Ms. Epperley)
Printers: If you do not see your printers listed, do a connection refresh by typing "connection refresh" in the bottom left search bar. All printers are still assigned but summer updates may have hidden them.
