Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a national day of service. Dr. King epitomized service for others and worked to make our country a better place each day. As we celebrate MLK Jr. Day this weekend, I wanted to take a second to thank each one of you for your unbelievable service to our students and families each day to make Piney Grove the best elementary school around. Thank you for all you do! πΌπ

Emily Lackey: Please join me in welcoming Ms. Emily Lackey to Piney Grove. Ms. Lackey will be joining us as a 4th & 5th Grade Support Teacher for the remainder of this year. She will transition into a full classroom teacher next school year. Ms. Lackey is coming to us from Rockingham County Schools.
Walkthroughs & Observations: Mr. Elkins and Ms. Gardner have started back with Walkthroughs & Observations. Our goal is to help everyone grow and continue to improve for the betterment of our students. Thanks for all you do!
mClass/DIBELS Invalidations: Please email Gardner with the details - child's name, probe, what happened. Once we get approval to invalidate, Gardner will let the teacher know.
Mid-Year Parent Conferences: All homeroom teachers will complete Mid-Year Parent Conferences for their students. Here are the details:
- Please complete by Feb 28, 2023
- Review MOY data with parents
- May do virtual or in-person
- Will begin retention discussions at this time
- More info to come on retentions
Post Student Work: Please make sure to show off the AMAZING student work your kids have completed in the hallways. When you post their work, please also post the Essential Question that links to the assignment. Thanks!
Gradebook Check: I will be conducting a Gradebook Check this upcoming week to make sure all classes are prepared for the end of the quarter. Please don't wait until the last minute to enter all of your grades.
Buddy Classes (from Ms. Jones & SIT): SIT is planning to bring back Buddy Classes. If you currently have a class you are actively doing Buddy Class with, please let Deana Jones know by Friday, January 20th. (DHJones2@wsfcs.k12.nc.us) Thank you!
Media Updates (from Ms. Epperley): Here are the updates from Ms. Epperley in the Media Center.
- K-2 Technology Survey: The technology department is looking for K-2 teachers input in solutions for technology for your students. We are collecting email addresses, names and school names so that we can identify trends within schools to see how we can best serve all schools.
- 2nd - 5th bring Chromebooks to Media
Shout-Outs: Shout-out to Emsleigh Rogers in Ms. Wise's class! Her artwork was selected to hang in the Superintendent's art exhibit at Central Office!
Important Items from Last Week
PDP Mid-Year Sign Up (Certified Staff Only): All certified staff need to sign up for a time to discuss and sign-off on their mid-year PDP progress. If Elkins completes your observations you will sign up with him, if Gardner completes your observations you will sign up with her. Sign up sheets are outside both of our offices. Please make sure you have completed your mid-year progress in NCEES before we meet. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to reach out.

Check-In Information (from Ms. Lloyd): We have the NC Check Ins #2 coming up. Here are the dates that we have scheduled:

Carolina Thunderbirds: SCC is organizing a group outing to the Carolina Thunderbirds Hockey Game for SATURDAY FEBRUARY 4, 2023. Please look at the information attached and let me know your interest.
