Week of 8/26 - 8/30

Hey Panda Family,

Labor Day is going to have a new appreciation now that we are three weeks into school (normally it was just one week)! Enjoy time this long weekend to recharge and do something fun. This three day weekend came at the perfect time 😊 "Give yourself the same care & attention that you give to others and watch yourself bloom" - Anonymous 💚

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

PTA Meeting: The September PTA meeting will be next Tuesday, September 3 @ 6:00. It is one of our School Improvement Plan goals this year to increase staff participation at the PTA meetings. We feel this is very important so our parents and volunteers see our support and so our staff has a voice at the table. We hope at least one member from each grade level or department will be able to be present at each meeting this year. This is completely voluntary, but any participation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Committee Minutes (from SIT): In an effort to make sure everyone is receiving the same information from committees, we are going to post the minutes from each committee meeting in the Weekly Wrap.  That cuts out the middle man for departments/grade levels.  One less thing for the rep to do and everyone hears the same info.

To make this even easier for everyone, we made copies of the minutes form we use at SIT.  We use the same document for the entire year and add the newest meeting to the top, like we do PLT agendas. All the minutes will be accessible to everyone whenever they are needed.  Please have whoever takes minutes for your committee use your form for 2024-2025.  We added the committee chairs as editors so you can then share with whoever is your notetaker.

We're hoping this helps with communication throughout the building and takes one thing away from committee reps.  Please let Ms. Gant know if you have any questions or trouble with the forms.  Thanks!

PTA Dues & Hospitality Dues: We hope everyone will pay their PTA & Hospitality dues. We are shooting for 100% participation. Here are the links:

iReady Reading BOY Diagnostic: 1st - 5th grade classes will complete their iReady Reading BOY Diagnostic next week.

Parent Communication Log: When you have completed your Parent Communication Log please turn it in to Mr. Elkins. Here are the bullet point reminders:

  • Here is a copy of the log - Parent Communication Log

  • By the end of September, teachers should have contacted all parents with a positive Dojo message or phone call

  • If parent does not respond, try another form of communication (phone call, email)

  • All students should receive a Pandagram home during the 1st quarter

  • Turn in log by 9/27/2024

Displaying Student Work: Let's show off that wonderful student work in the hallways! I encourage all classes to display student work in the hallways with the "I can" statement so we know what your students were learning about. Here is a wonderful example from 4th grade!

AIG Lift Groups: Please continue to keep Ms. Guffey in your thoughts and prayers. Her father is doing a little bit better each day. Ms. Guffey will be returning to work on Tuesday and will begin pulling groups.

Morning Announcements: Announcements will continue to be over the intercom next week.

Shout-Outs 🎉: From Ms. Corlett - shout out to Ms. Medley for sharing 2 incredible (applicable to 5th grade) resources to use as part of our school wide PDP on Number Talk.  They are fantastic.  She always finds and shares incredible resources!!!

From Mr. Elkins - Shout out to Ms. Ceglowski for being chosen by our district to attend a national SEL conference! She was one of the few selected to represent our district. Congrats!

Week of 8/19 - 8/23

Hey Panda Family,

Raise your hand if...you have repeated yourself 5,000 times already? Two weeks in and the honeymoon phase is officially over (did it even begin 😂 - Lol). In this week's staff meeting we discussed having Perseverance. A part of having perseverance is doing the taxing things right now to establish the structure needed for the rest of the year - making sure your class is quiet when the music is playing in the cafeteria, reviewing expectations at all times, not letting the little bit of talking or disruptions slide. These are just a few simple examples, but the more we put in the hard work right now the more it will pay off later. You can always loosen up, but it is very difficult to tighten up. Being consistent and patient is key. No one has to be "the mean teacher" but just consistent and firm. I say all these things just as a reminder. Everyone is working so hard and that is so evident. Don't hesitate to ask for help and remember to celebrate the progress. Enjoy your weekend and the beautiful weather. Thank you for all you do for our school! 💚

The attached weather chart and the Winston Salem weather station are what we generally use for hot/cold weather play decisions.
In general, on the attached chart:
  • Green requires no precautions.
  • Yellow requires appropriate clothing  for cold weather, close monitoring of activity, and 30 minute time limits.
  • Red is not appropriate for outdoor play/activity at school

Emergency Sub Plans: All certified teachers should have at least 3-5 days worth of emergency sub plans prepared in case of an emergency and you have to be out suddenly. Please make sure these plans have a roster, your detailed schedule, clear directions, and all materials. Please keep these plans in a folder in your room.
