Week of 12/8 - 12/12

Hey Panda Family,

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around Piney Grove. You bring so much joy to the world and your smiles make this the most wonderful time of the year. Next week will be filled with jingle bells, rocking around the Christmas tree, and Rudolph the red nose reindeer. It will not be filled with many silent nights. Please make sure everyone o comes all ye faithful to work so we can deck the Piney Grove halls with love. All I want for Christmas is you to have an amazing final week of 2nd Quarter! 😊 Thanks for all you do!🎅

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

iReady Diagnostics: All K-5 classes will finish their iReady diagnostics next week. Please have all diagnostics completed by the end of the day on December 17. I plan to distribute prizes to the winning students and classes on Thursday and Friday next week.

Visit from New Superintendent: Our new Superintendent, Dr. Phipps, is working to visit every school in the county. He will be here at Piney Grove on Thursday, December 18 in the morning.

Fire Drill: We will have our December fire drill next Monday, December 15 @ 2:20.

Spelling Bee: The school Spelling Bee will be next Wednesday, December 17 @ 8:30 in the Media Center. This is for 4th and 5th grade only.

Merry Christmas Lunch: The office will be providing lunch for all staff on Thursday, December 18. It will be set up right outside the cafeteria. There will also be a PGE present for everyone. We hope you enjoy!

Non-Instructional Time: In SIT this past week we looked at our current discipline data. Sixty percent of all paw form incidents are occurring during non-instructional time (i.e. recess, in the hallways, cafeteria). And the majority of those incidents are boys. Please make sure you and your team continue to stay tight during these non-instructional times and provide active supervision. It isn't going to eliminate everything, but every little bit helps. Thank you so much for your help with this!

PBIS Updates: Students will shop in the Paw Store on December 15 or 16 (see the Schedule for your time). The PBIS team cleaned out and organized the Paw Store in preparation for our students shopping on December 15 and 16. We are encouraging students to use their shopping trip to purchase holiday gifts for others. (There's still a two-item limit.) We could use more "big ticket" items if you have anything to donate from your own home. We also need bags for students to put their gift items in, if you have any to spare. Thank you!

Mclass Progress Monitoring: Please make sure you are progress monitoring your students in Mclass. Here is the link to the progress monitoring calendar: Mclass Progress Monitoring Schedule. Next week is a Green & Blue week.

Spirit Week: Next week is Spirit Week. The specific days are in the graphic below. I hope everyone will join in on the fun!🎄

Previous Updates

2nd Quarter Grades: The last day of second quarter is December 19. Report cards are due to Ms. True by the end of the day on January 2. Report cards will go home on January 9.

HB 805: A new state law has been passed that now requires us to catalog our classroom libraries and provide these lists to parents if they ask. Here is the information principals received - House Bill 805. MTAC has shared some very easy steps to accomplish this task. I know this is not ideal, and somewhat of a hassle, but we have to do it (sorry). We will discuss it more in PLTs if you have questions. Here is a link to the directions if you want to go ahead and knock it out - Catalog Your Classroom LibraryIf you would like a volunteer to help catalog your classroom library for you please complete this form - Request for a Volunteer to help catalog. All cataloging must be completed by 2/2/2026.

Cards for Ms. Cathie: We would like to deliver some homemade student Christmas cards to Ms. Cathie, our former custodian, this holiday season. If you and your students would like to make cards for Ms. Cathie we know she would absolutely love them. Please deliver any cards to Mr. Elkins or Ms. Lawson by December 19. We will deliver them to Ms. Cathie before Christmas.

SCC Seasonal Gathering (from Ms. Mabe & Ms. Mathis): In lieu of our traditional holiday get-together in December, SCC has decided to organize a social event in January so that we can relax and enjoy it without the pressure of the holiday craze.  Please mark your calendar for Friday, January 16, 2026, to join us at Stock and Grain at 6:30 p.m. in High Point.  There will be live music that evening from 7-10 p.m.  There are various food options, a full bar if you would like to order something fun, and a coffee and dessert vendor.  We look forward to a fun, relaxing evening!  Significant others are welcome.  No children please.

Paw Form Consequences: Here is the list of acceptable and unacceptable classroom consequences if a student gets a Paw Form. We will continue to add to this list, and I will be communicating these changes to parents soon. Here is the list: Paw Form Consequences

PTA Reimbursement Link: Don't forget, every teacher gets $100 from PTA to go towards your classroom and your students. You will buy the items and then get reimbursed from PTA. Here are the links to submit your receipts for reimbursement. If you have any questions, please reach out to Ms. Owens and she can help you. Here are the links:
