Week of 2/23 - 2/27

Hey Panda Family,

I want everyone to watch the video below. It could not be more true! The impact you make is lifelong. Thanks for all you do! 5 more days before Spring Break. We got this! 🌞

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Measles Mandatory Staff Meeting: All schools are required to have an emergency staff meeting before spring break with their school nurse, ours is Jamie Sult, to go over measles protocols in case there is a reported case. Our Measles Staff Meeting will be Thursday, March 5 @ 3:30 in the Media Center. It should last roughly 30 minutes. All staff are required to attend. Thank you for adjusting your schedule.
  • In an effort to help Nurse Sult adequately prepare for the meeting I have created a Google form where you can submit any questions you may already have regarding measles and the protocols. We will make sure all questions are answered during the presentation. If you have any questions please submit them here: Measles Q & A

Voting Site: We will be a voting site on Tuesday, March 3 in the Media Center. The Media Center will be closed this day. If you have Media Specials on Tuesday, Ms. Epperley will come to your room.

Baby Shower for Mrs. Kirk: Please join us on March 4 @ 3:30 in the Media Center to celebrate the new addition to the Kirk family! Here are the links to the registry:

Lunch from The Summit: The Summit Church is graciously providing lunch from Debbie's Catering for the entire staff on Thursday, March 5. They will begin serving at 11:00 in the workroom.

Chromebook Update Needed (from Ms. Guffey): The State is requiring all districts to update the NCTest Chrome app.  The update is being pushed out this week.  Before administering your next NC Check-In, EOG, or EOC assessment, please allow the Chromebooks extra time to update.  Ask students to open the Chromebooks so they can update.  Open Chromebooks on carts (if you have extras) to allow them to update.  When updated, the app will be labeled as North Carolina Testing System. If you still see NCTest app, reboot the Chromebook a couple of times to push an update. Reach out if you have any questions.

Education Foundation Grant: The Education Foundation for the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools invites applications for grants several times a year. These grants help teachers fund innovative classroom initiatives with new materials and enrichment opportunities. The current grant cycle is open until March 15. Winners can receive up to $1,500! See below for the grant information:

Ms. Gardner's Schedule: Here is Ms. Gardner's schedule for the month of March - Ms. Gardner's Schedule

Previous Updates

Measles MMR: If you follow the news, you have probably seen there has been a measles outbreak in South Carolina. The district is preparing for if/when a case of measles presents itself in one of our schools. All principals are currently making a plan with their school nurse in conjunction with the Health Department. Here are some highlights, things to know, at this point:
  • The MMR vaccine consists of two doses
  • Any student that is not fully vaccinated will receive communication from our school nurse
  • If there is an identified case of measles in our school then:
    • Any student that has received one or two doses of the MMR vaccine can continue coming to school
    • Any staff member that has received one or two doses of the MMR vaccine can continue working
    • Any student that has received zero doses of the MMR vaccine must be excluded from school for 21 days
    • Any staff member that has received zero doses of the MMR vaccine must be excluded from work for 21 days and take sick leave
  • All staff members need to begin working on finding their childhood immunization records to prove they have received the MMR vaccine. Here are your options if you don't have your childhood records:
    • If you graduated from a WS/FCS high school:
      • email studentrecords@wsfcs.k12.nc.us
      • send them your name (what it was), the high school you graduated from and the year, a picture of your staff ID badge, and a request for records
      • they will email you your immunization records
    • You can get another MMR vaccine to be sure
      • Multiple MMR vaccines will not hurt you
    • You can get a titer test for MMR to see if you have had the vaccine
As I receive more information I will certainly keep you informed. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
