Week of 8/30 - 9/3

Hey Panda Family,

Week 2 is in the books, and we all deserve the long weekend ahead! 😊 This is a week I'm sure none of us will forget as we continue to process the tragic news that happened in our district. As students return to Mount Tabor on Tuesday many schools across the district plan to show their support by sporting their school colors - Navy & Yellow. I encourage us all to participate by wearing navy and yellow on Tuesday as we continue to keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

MTSS Intervention Clarification: Had this one common question from a few people after our PD on Thursday and I wanted to make sure that I cleared up any confusion. Ms. Bolchalk, Ms. Christopher, and Ms. Grubbs will be supporting you with your student's interventions, but we will also need your help with interventions during your scheduled Intervention time. Between your scheduled Intervention time and the support from these ladies we will be able to cover most (if not all) interventions for each grade level. I apologize if I gave the impression that classroom teachers wouldn't have to do any interventions. This is why we created the intervention time in the schedule (for both classroom teachers and assistant support to work on interventions at the same time).

Hope this helps clear up any confusion. Remember we are all going to work on this together as we give our pandas the support they need to grow. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

Emergency Sub Plans: Please make sure you have created emergency sub plans in case you have to be out on a moment's notice. Your sub plans should have a detailed schedule, any important student information (health info, behavior concerns, etc.), and lesson plans.

Walkthroughs: Ms. Gardner and I have enjoyed popping in to your classes this week. We plan to continue our rounds this week as we work to get to everyone on our observation list. These are very informal and just a way for the students to get used to us being in there and to drop you a note of support!

PDP conferences: Elkins and Gardner have a schedule for certified staff to sign up for their PDP conferences outside of their office. We would like to complete these over the next two weeks. Here is a list to see who is observing you this year: Observation Schedule 2021-22. Please sign up with the correct administrator.

Morning Meetings: Our School Improvement Team will be working on sharing some fun and creative activities to add to your Morning Meetings in the coming weeks. Watch this quick video to reinforce the importance of a Morning Meeting routine each day - Edutopia Morning Meetings

IF Updates

Follow up on MTSS Updates from 9/2/21: Here is the presentation from last Thursday.  The parent letter that MUST be sent when a tier change is made is on slide 2, and the sign up genius for tier 3 meetings is linked on slide 10.  Remember, if you need help with anything, please ask.  This includes asking me if you know a student had a plan last year but we haven’t spoken about whether or not it should continue into this year. The classroom teacher is responsible for many parts of these plans, but I am ready and willing to support you as you navigate ANY and ALL parts of it.

iReady and mClass updates: Our testing windows have gotten off to a fabulous start!  I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your hard work and dedication to helping your students have a good testing experience.  Keep asking for help if you need it!

Ms. Grubbs out of the building: Just a reminder that I will be out of the building Tuesday morning, Thursday, and Friday. Please keep in mind that I will not be able to provide immediate assistance on any of these days but will when I return to the building.

Items from Previous Weeks

Opening Staff Meeting Presentation: 2021-2022 Opening Staff Meeting

Positive Covid Student Cases or Exposures: If a parent reaches out to you letting you know their child has tested positive for Covid, or has been exposed outside of school, please email Ms. Gardner and myself so we can reach out to the parents and input the case into the district system. Also, make sure you communicate to the parent how to access the child's makeup work while they are absent.

Attendance due to Student Quarantine: If asked about attendance for quarantine, please share the following information with parents. The attendance procedures from DPI will be followed for the coding of quarantine students in PowerSchool.  The absences will be excused absences.

Asynchronous Work During Quarantines (from district): If students are absent due to inclement weather, long term sickness, or quarantine, teachers should provide playlists or assignments to continue learning through Canvas.  Since we are not using concurrent teaching practices this year, playlists and other assignments housed in Canvas would provide asynchronous learning and continued practice during extended absences.  If an entire class is quarantined, teachers may want to return to teaching the whole class through Zoom or Teams during the duration of the quarantine.  (Note- A device distribution plan may be needed for K-2.)

Lesson Plans: Lessons plans should be on your Canvas page. They should be easy to follow and should have these elements: Standards, EQ ("I can" statements), Materials used, Assessment activities (should match standard), and any relevant links. Your lesson plans in Canvas should serve as a blue print for your instruction. If you would like to create more detailed plans for yourself you are more than welcome to, but it is not required.

Playground: We are still waiting on the maintenance department to finish the drainage work on our playground. Please keep students off the playground until we give the "all clear".

Lunch in Classrooms: Please have students spread out, eat outside, etc. during lunch time so we can create as much separation between students while their masks are off. No parents are allowed to eat lunch with their child at this time. Thanks!

Media Center: Open check out is available daily from 7:50-8:20.

Field Trips: Please submit field trip requests to Ms. Gardner as soon as you have them. Dates are filling up.

NCEES Evaluation Information (certified staff): On our Canvas page under 21-22 NCEES documents there are resources to guide you.

  • Use August 16 as the Orientation date
    • Make sure to "MARK COMPLETE"
  • Complete the self assessment.
    • Click "START NEW"
    • You may "SHARE" your self assessment if you want.  This is not required.
    • Make sure to hit "FINALIZE"
