Week of 2/27 - 3/3

Hey Panda Family,

The quote below was shared with me at my Principal meeting this week: "If they can't learn the way we teach, we teach the way they learn." As I thought about it, I couldn't help but think about how in every classroom our teachers are reflecting, how we analyze data and determine a different approach to instruction on a daily basis, and how we work to have restorative conversations to help our students grow socially and emotionally. I am so proud how each of you continues to invest and pour in to our students. Our school is so blessed because of each of you. Thank you for your problem solving skills, your positive attitudes, and your commitment to excellence. It shines through every day! 💚

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Ms. Rubley: Today is Ms. Rubley's last day at Piney Grove. She was offered a position with her previous employer that she couldn't refuse. We will miss her dearly, but we wish her nothing but the best in her next adventure. Thank you for everything, Natalie!

Thinking of You: Beginning next week, in the Weekly Wrap I will keep a section updated titled "Thinking of You". In an effort to better support our colleagues that may be going through things outside of our building, I will keep this section updated so staff members can reach out and show support. Please know that not all individuals will want certain situations shared, so we will respect that before including them in the Weekly Wrap. I hope this will help us as we work to better support each other as a Panda Family 🐼

Mid-Year Parent Conferences Survey: If you haven't already, all K-5 teachers should complete the following survey to let me know the progress of your MOY parent/teacher conferences. Here is the survey link: Mid-Year Parent Conference Completion Form

Pam Mason - LETRS: Teachers who are required to complete LETRS may sign up with Pam Mason for an additional half-day to work on their coursework. Please review the days that are available and get with Ms. Mason to schedule it. We hope this helps give you some extra time to complete this professional development. Here is Ms. Mason's schedule - Pam Mason's Schedule

Vending Machine Information: Beginning next week, students may pay $100 Paw Bucks to their teacher in exchange for a token to "purchase" a book from the vending machine. Tokens are located in the vault for safe keeping. Teachers are free to get tokens for any students that have paid their Paw Bucks. Just ask any office staff member and they can show you where the tokens are located in the vault. The machine is simple to use. Just insert the token, press the number of the book they want, and then hit enter. The book will then dispense. If you have any issues, please don't hesitate to reach out to Mr. Elkins.

Teacher Intent Form: All certified staff members should have received an email from Human Resources to complete their intent to stay, or transfer, for next school year. Please make sure you complete this by March 15. If you have any questions about this form, please don't hesitate to reach out.

PBIS: Our next PBIS event will be on Friday, March 24. Students will participate in the Panda Chef Challenge, decorating a cupcake using one of two designs. The cost is 50 Paw Bucks. Numbers are due to this PBIS events spreadsheet by Thursday, March 9 so supplies can be ordered. The schedule will be sent no later than 3/17.

Boosterthon Fun-Run Times: Here is the schedule for next Friday, March 10 - Boosterthon Fun-Run

Panorama Survey:  It's time for another Panorama survey window. The Spring Survey will be open March 1-15.  Did we just do this?  YES, Are we doing it again?  YOU BET!  This is how we get comparison data.  It's like SEL progress monitoring.  🙂

Student survey -  3rd through 5th grade - Please have students complete the Survey anytime that works for your class the week of March 6-10. They will access the survey using the link below.
100% participation is expected from the district.  We typically get in the high 90's with absences.  The district prefers for each school to pick a day and time to do the survey but I feel what is best for our school is to allow teachers to work it into the class schedule in a way that works best for each individual class.  I will track it as classes get it done and follow up to make sure everyone is counted.  Thanks!

Staff Survey - You will get an email from Panorama Learning Team.  Please complete the survey by our March 21 staff meeting. The other option is to complete it after the staff meeting.

Family Survey -  The link is attached.  I will add it to the school story, I will ask Deana to share it on FB.  Please add to any newsletter or other communication that you use with your class.  March 17 Talent Show and March 10  Fun Run will be great opportunities to get parent surveys completed.  I will have QR codes up around the building. Please encourage parents to fill it out while they wait for the fun to begin! Thank you!

Arts Donation: CLICK HERE to make a gift by credit card, payroll deduction, cash or check. Thank you to anyone who is willing to make a donation to this great cause!

March Drills: Fire, Tornado, and Lockdown.  The Tornado Drill will be announced.

Early Release Day, March 15: See attached schedule for lunch and specials.

Math Resources: Please see the attached links for math calculator resources.

Media Updates (from Ms. Epperley): Here are the updates from Ms. Epperley in the Media Center.
  • Keep Reading!! Come "check-out" the new books and shelves in the library!
  • No Chromebooks needed for media specials.

Shout-Outs: Shout-out to all who participated in the dress up days, that cheer on their class for Boosterthon, and for letting loose and being silly 😀 The kids love it!

Important Items from Last Week

Science Lab Materials: We are working to replenish the science lab with materials (like: baking soda, balloons, newspaper, magazines, measuring cups, vinegar, etc.) needed for science demonstrations & experiments. Please discuss as a grade level and submit your requests to your SIT chair by March 14.

Presentations from Staff Meeting: See below for the presentation links from our staff meeting this past week. Thank you to all our presenters!

Student News (from Ms. Ceglowski): Hey everyone!  If you are interested, I would love for you to send me a clip of anything from your class you would like added to the news!  My days have gotten busier so the news is now limited to the basics. If you take a short video on your phone and text it to me at 631-235-3161, I can edit it in during my leisurely evenings of edit time!  🙂  If you have news to share, I want it!  As you can see from the everyday news, it does not need to be perfect by any stretch. An example would be clips from a field trip (hint 4th grade!)  I just want everyone to be represented on the morning news.  Thanks!
