Week of 1/29 - 2/2

Hey Panda Family,

Third Quarter...we are beginning the long stretch of the year. As we move into third quarter I think it is important that we revisit a few things. First, let's help each other stay above the line. Go out of your way to help someone out, send someone a thoughtful text, pick a teammate up if they are having a rough day, and find ways to spread positive energy when you have it. Try not to get caught in a vortex of negativity. Second, don't forget your IMPACT is much more than test scores. The most important piece of your impact is the relationships you form and how we make those around us feel. Lastly, I am impressed by each of you every day. I see how hard you work, how much you care, and how invested you are in our school. It makes me so proud. I know I have high expectations, but that is because I see the amazing potential in all of you and all our students. I am your biggest cheerleader! Thanks for all you do and here's to a great third quarter!

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Thoughts and Prayers: Please keep Ms. Harman's family in your thoughts and prayers. Her mother-in-law passed away this week. We are praying for you and your family.

Summer Vacations: The district has approved the 2024-2025 school calendar WS/FCS 24-25 Calendar. As you can see our start date is much earlier next year. The first teacher workday is Thursday, August 1. If you have summer plans that can't be adjusted and you will be out during some of the workdays please let me know. It is okay if that is the case, I just want to be prepared and plan ahead. Thanks!

Real Life Math Challenge (from SIT): Each Monday during February and March we will promote a Real Life Math Challenge to our panda families on School Story and Facebook. Families will be encouraged to explore math together in a quicksimplehands-on way then share a photo and quick statement with their child's teacher via Class Dojo or email. Please discuss the responses you receive in morning meeting or math class each week and send the best ones to Deana Jones (336-407-2197 or DHJones2@wsfcs.k12.nc.us) to highlight on social media. Thank you for your support!

Afternoon Bus Riders: We have a great problem that we need your help with! The majority of our busses are now on campus when we dismiss. Please remind your students to listen carefully for their bus number in the afternoon. Most days bus 438, 453, 250, 231, and 828 are all here at dismissal & 473 and 75 come about 10-15 minutes later. Thank you so much for your help with this!

Posting Student Work: Thank you to those who continue to post your awesome student work in the hallways with the "I can" statement. If you haven't posted any student work lately, I strongly encourage you to show off all that they are learning! Your students love seeing their work displayed and so do their parents when they come to visit 😊

Talent Show Date: Please mark your calendar for Friday, March 15 at 8:45 for our school talent show!

iReady Next Steps: Want to know how to best support your student's instruction now that they have taken the MOY iReady Diagnostic? The Can Dos and Next Steps section of the student’s Diagnostic Results report tells you this information. Here are directions on how to use these reports - https://i-readycentral.com/pdfs/reference-sheet-diagnostic-results-student-reading/ and https://i-readycentral.com/pdfs/reference-sheet-diagnostic-results-student-mathematics/.

Canvas Master Course (from district): We have many new updates for our WS/FCS Social Studies Canvas Master Courses. Please share this information with your teachers. If you or your teachers would like additional support or more information, we are happy to come to PLTs or grade level meetings!

Shout-outs: Shoutout to Phil the groundhog for predicting an early spring!

Updates from Previous Week
