Week of 2/5 - 2/9

Hey Panda Family,

Love is in the air 😍 Next week we have opportunities to spread lots of love! It is Random Acts of Kindness week, Bus Driver Appreciation week, and Valentine's Day. I challenge everyone to think of one act they could do next week to spread some love around the building. Take a little bit of time to make someone's day - it may be just what they need :)

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Thoughts and Prayers: Please keep Ms. Caudle's family in your thoughts and prayers. Her father passed away last weekend. Ms. Caudle is a part-time assistant in our PreK classroom.

MOY State of the School: Last year I gave a presentation at our February staff meeting to review our MOY progress in all our data points. This year I would like to do this presentation in smaller settings so we can have more discussion and individuals have time to ask questions. I would like all staff to attend one of these meetings next week. You are free to choose which time to attend. All K-5 teachers will get this presentation in their PLT meeting. The presentation should last about 20-25 minutes. Here are the times for next week (please attend one of these sessions):

Monday, February 12 @ 2:20 - PLT Room

Tuesday, February 13 @ 11:00 - Room 101

Wednesday, February 14 @ 2:20 - PLT Room

Wednesday, February 14 @ 3:30 - Media Center

Thursday, February 15 @ 8:00 - PLT Room

Thursday, February 15 @ 2:20 - PLT Room

Friday, February 16 @ 1:30 - PLT Room

Teacher Intent 2024-2025: Next week district office will be sending an email to all Certified Instructional Staff to mark their intent for next school year. The email will have all of the instructions for completing the intent form. If you have any questions about the form I will be happy to help you. If you plan to seek a transfer that is totally fine, I would just appreciate if you would have a conversation with me beforehand. Thanks :)

Imprints: If you need to utilize the free day-to-day childcare for Imprints because you have a meeting please let Caressa Vance know in advance. This will allow her to properly prepare for the additional kid(s). You can text her on her cell phone at 336-995-0027.

Valentine's Day Breakfast (from PTA): On Wednesday, February 14th, we want to start your day off the right way with a tasty breakfast. Stop by the workroom before you get your day started. Thanks for all you do!

Meal Train: Our own Panda, Izzy Kindred, must undergo another heart surgery in the upcoming weeks. In an effort to take one thing off their plate, the 2nd grade teachers have organized a meal train sign-up for anyone that would like to help provide Jen Kindred and her family with a meal while Izzy recovers. If you would like to help here is a link to the meal train sign-up: https://mealtrain.com/gmqwle. Thank you for supporting one of our school family members!

Housekeeping Items: Please review these housekeeping items as friendly reminders.
  • Make sure your classroom door remains locked at all times. You may leave it propped open, but it should remain locked (that way you can close it quickly in case of a lockdown)
  • Do not prop open exterior doors
  • Wear your ID badge at all times
  • If you have to suddenly be out due to sickness or an emergency please make sure you text Mr. Elkins & Ms. Owens

PBIS Updates: Please see the updates below from the PBIS Committee.

Shout-outs: From Ms. Ceglowski - please give a shout out for me to all the 5th grade teachers for showing up at the first ever Middle School Information Night. It would not have been the same without their support!

Thank you to everyone who stayed late today to help with our bus fiasco! We greatly appreciate you monitoring the kids and calling parents while we worked through the bump up. Thank you!

Updates from Previous Week

Summer Vacations: The district has approved the 2024-2025 school calendar WS/FCS 24-25 Calendar. As you can see our start date is much earlier next year. The first teacher workday is Thursday, August 1. If you have summer plans that can't be adjusted and you will be out during some of the workdays please let me know. It is okay if that is the case, I just want to be prepared and plan ahead. Thanks!

Real Life Math Challenge (from SIT): Each Monday during February and March we will promote a Real Life Math Challenge to our panda families on School Story and Facebook. Families will be encouraged to explore math together in a quicksimplehands-on way then share a photo and quick statement with their child's teacher via Class Dojo or email. Please discuss the responses you receive in morning meeting or math class each week and send the best ones to Deana Jones (336-407-2197 or DHJones2@wsfcs.k12.nc.us) to highlight on social media. Thank you for your support!

PD Catalog for 2nd Semester: Please review the Second Semester Professional Learning Catalog for Professional Learning sessions offered during the second semester.

IEP Minutes: Here is a new link for the IEP minutes template. Please remember to bring your computer to IEP meetings.

Fire Marshall: Our 2nd inspection will happen any day now.
  • Please ensure your back door is not blocked (5-6 floor squares).
  • Extra desks in the hallway should be brought into a classroom until after the inspection.
  • Please ensure nothing is hanging from the ceiling or from the front of your door.

Staff Challenge for January/February (Optional): If you would like to participate, your grade level or department will come up with a theme to decorate their doors by February 16. The more creative theme the better! Judging will occur on February 16 and the winning grade level/department will be announced at the next staff meeting (and they will win a prize).
