Memorial for Debby Pegram (from the Retiree Committee): Dear family, retirees, staff at Piney Grove and friends, Mr. Elkins has invited us to attend a dedication ceremony at Piney Grove Elementary on Monday, November 17 at 3:45pm. We will be dedicating a glider purchased in Debby Pegram’s memory. Debby also wrote Piney Grove’s school song the year the school opened in 1990. The song has been printed on a plaque that will hang near the front lobby of the school. Thank you to all who have supported by donating funds. It will be a great event celebrating a very special teacher at Piney Grove Elementary. We look forward to seeing you Monday, November 17.
Open Enrollment State Health Plan: Open Enrollment is underway and ends Oct. 31!
All active and Non-Medicare members will be automatically enrolled into the Standard PPO Plan (formerly the 70/30 Plan). If you would like to enroll in the Plus PPO Plan (formerly the 80/20 Plan) or if you would like to make a change to your dependents, you will need to TAKE ACTION during Open Enrollment.
There are several changes for 2026:
- There are increases to the deductible and copays on each plan.
- Salary-based premiums for active members is new, which means your salary dictates your premium rate. When you log into eBenefits you will see your 2026 monthly premium rate. Your salary information was provided by your HR department, which determines the salary band. Salary-based premiums does not impact retirees. Monthly premiums for all members can be found on the Plan’s website at www.shpnc.gov

- Good Citizens: Each month we will focus on a different character trait for our Good Citizens. October is Kindness. I will put keychains in your box each month, you can get the coin from the vault when you are ready. If you are missing a keychain, they are also in the vault.
Field Trip Bag Lunch Forms: If your class is going on a field trip and students need bag lunches from the cafeteria, please fill out a field trip bag lunch form and turn it in to the cafeteria at least seven days in advance. They need this time to make sure they have enough items on hand to prepare these lunches.
Emergency Sub Plans: Please make sure you have emergency sub plans ready for if/when you have something unexpected come up and need to be out. These plans should be easily accessible and please don't incorporate lots of technology. In these emergency situations it is best to have something simple prepared that anyone can step in and help with. Thanks!
