Week of 11/10 - 11/14

Hey Panda Family,

In our last staff meeting I told everyone about our push to get our kids reading out loud more. I just wanted to say thank you! Keep up the great work practicing these fluency skills! In my walkthroughs, I have seen more choral reading, partner reading, students reading the directions instead of the teacher, popcorn reading where the teacher reads then she picks a student to read and then the teacher reads then she picks another student to read, sight word reading before lining up for recess, and so many other creative ways to get the kids reading out loud. Make them do the work! Keep doing great things. Every little bit makes a difference! 📚

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Memorial for Debby Pegram (from the Retiree Committee): Dear family, retirees, staff at Piney Grove and friends, Mr. Elkins has invited us to attend a dedication ceremony at Piney Grove Elementary on Monday, November 17 at 3:45pm. We will be dedicating a glider purchased in Debby Pegram’s memory. Debby also wrote Piney Grove’s school song the year the school opened in 1990. The song has been printed on a plaque that will hang near the front lobby of the school. Thank you to all who have supported by donating funds. It will be a great event celebrating a very special teacher at Piney Grove Elementary. We look forward to seeing you Monday, November 17.

Mrs. Peickert: As some of you know, Mrs. Peickert's husband has been working on his Nurse Practitioner degree. He has finished and has accepted a full-time position. Mrs. Peickert will be staying home with their son full-time beginning in January. I am in the process of hiring a long-term sub for this position for the remainder of the school year. We will greatly miss Mrs. Peickert and we are so thankful for everything you have done for our school and Science special over the past four years.

PBIS Updates: Students will shop in the Paw Store on December 15 or 16 (see the Schedule for your time). We are treating this as a holiday market and encouraging students to shop for others. (We'll still have a two-item limit.) We are going to purchase craft kits to have in the store but need donations of giftable items they can choose from as well. We also need holiday or colored paper bags they can take their items home in for giving. As you're going through your holiday things, if you have anything to give, please put it in the Paw Store donation box in the office. Thank you!

Counseling Updates (from Ms. Ceglowski): Please use this link if you would like for me to meet with one of your students. Thank you for signing up for classroom guidance! This is a great opportunity to meet with teachers and students together to do some skill-building lessons that teachers can then reinforce when the opportunity arises.  I love when teachers join in and share their own experiences, it's powerful for the students! Please use the following link to book classroom guidance for 2nd quarter. Book time with Ceglowski, Jessica: Classroom Guidance - 2nd Quarter

Dental Screening (PreK, Kinder, 3rd, 5th): This is just a friendly reminder that dental screening is next Thursday, November 20 for PreK, Kinder, 3rd, and 5th grade. It will be located on the stage. Here is the schedule and directions - Dental screening. Please reach out to Ms. Gardner if you have any questions.

Grades in Infinite Campus: Please make sure your grades are updated in Infinite Campus by next Friday, November 21. Next week is progress report week. I will be encouraging all parents to check their parent portal next Friday to monitor how their child is doing in second quarter. Thanks!

Mclass Progress Monitoring: Please make sure you are progress monitoring your students in Mclass. Here is the link to the progress monitoring calendar: Mclass Progress Monitoring Schedule. Next week is a Yellow week.

Mrs. Honeycutt Baby Shower: Please join us to celebrate Mrs. Honeycutt and her future addition on December 3 @ 3:30 in the Media Center. See the invitation below.
