Week of 10/5 - 10/9

Hey Panda Family,

I have been watching a documentary on ESPN called "Saban". It tracks the college coaching career of 7x national football champion Nick Saban. In the documentary Coach Saban talks about what helped him go from average coach to champion. He said he stopped focusing on the scoreboard and just focused on each individual play. If every player gave their best effort on every play, if every play was executed without flaw, and if every player knew their assignment on each play then the score would take care of itself. Once he stopped focusing on just the final outcome (winning or losing), and started focusing on the small details, his teams took off and started winning all the championships. As I have watched it I have thought a lot about how I operate here. Instead of worrying about final EOG results at the end of the year or EOY Mclass results, I am going to work on just winning each day. If I pile a lot of daily victories together then I know the end results are going to turn out well. I challenge you to do the same. Win each lesson, win each moment with your students, win each day. The rest will take care of itself 🏈 Have a great long weekend!

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Report Cards: I know the district wants us to move more towards digital (which I am fine with for progress reports during the quarter), but I still want to send home paper report cards at the end of the quarter for our students. I think it is very important that they see their grades on paper (especially our older students), they have a written comment from me or Gardner, and they have something to put on their refrigerator to celebrate their progress. Your report cards are due to Ms. True by the end of the day on October 13. We will print report cards for all students and they will go home on October 23 in Friday Folders in the report card envelopes.

October 12 Workday: Monday, October 12 is a Reserved for Teachers Workday. All employees are required to work on this workday or take leave. Human Resources has approved teleworking for all employees on October 12. The building will also be open on October 12 from 7:30 - 5:30 for anyone that wants to work from the building. If you choose to telework, please make sure you turn in your teleworking agreement to Mrs. Owens.

Pressure Washing: We are paying to have all the walkways, sidewalks, awnings, and courtyards pressure washed next week around the school. There may be a little bit of noise next week while this gets done, but it will help freshen up the outside of our building.

Tornado Drill: We will have a tornado drill next Wednesday, October 14 @ 9:30. Your students will get in tornado drill position in the hallway (students on their knees with their heads covered). Mrs. Gardner will get on the announcements and walk you through the drill.

WS/FCS Athletic Stickers (from district): Beginning October 16, 2026, employees will need to have a WS/FCS athletic admission sticker attached to their current WS/FCS employee ID to receive free admission to WS/FCS athletic events. Employees who do not have the sticker will be required to pay the applicable admission fee. Please see Mrs. Owens if you would like an athletic sticker.

A few important reminders:
  • The sticker is available only to current WS/FCS employees.
  • Employees must present their current WS/FCS employee ID with the sticker attached when entering an athletic event.
  • The sticker is not transferable and may only be used by the employee to whom the ID is issued.
  • The sticker does not provide access to events hosted by schools or organizations outside of WS/FCS.
  • Event-specific admission procedures, capacity limitations, or other NCHSAA/WS/FCS requirements may still apply.
  • Employees should not remove the sticker from their ID or place it on another ID

Flu Shots: Kernersville Pharmacy is coming to give flu shots here at school on Friday, October 16th from 3:15 - 4:15 pm. Mrs. Owens will make copies of the form that needs be completed and put in your box .  They also will need a copy of your insurance card (front and back). See the image below for the immunization clinic hosted by the district.

PGE Tutor List: It's that time of year when parents start inquiring about tutors.  If you are interested in tutoring students outside of school hours, please send Mrs. Ceglowski an email. Please add your phone number, which grades and math, reading, or both.

Positive Communication Log: Please make sure you share your Positive Communication Log with me before the end of the quarter. Remember, all students should receive at least one Pandagram by the end of 1st Quarter. Fill that parent bucket with positive messages, so when you do have to reach out because the student made a poor choice it isn't the first time the parent is hearing from you. Thanks!

Paw Form Consequences: If a student receives a paw form they need to also receive a consequence here at school. Here is the list of acceptable and unacceptable classroom consequences if a student gets a Paw Form. Here is the list: Paw Form Consequences

    • Please use this LINK to sign up for a classroom guidance lesson.  I have added Thursdays so you can book, Monday, Wednesday or Thursday.  Please note that I am the backup sub for the Discovery Den and may need to change a booking due to coverage needs.
