Hey Panda Family,

Who votes for a 3-day school week to start the year? ✋ If only I had that power! However, we made it through the first full week! Paw Forms: The honeymoon period is already over for some :) Please give warnings and then don't hesitate to give paw forms if needed. Make sure you have clear communication with parents so they know what happened and how they can support you. If you send home a paw form, please make sure to enter it into Educator's Handbook.

Picture of Students (Homeroom Teachers): I would like an individual picture of each of your students for the PLT room. Please have them developed and turn in a class set to Mr. Elkins. You can give Ms. Owens your receipt and she will reimburse you. Thank you!

NCEES Observations (Certified Staff): I have entered all the observation plans in NCEES. You should be able to go in now and complete your Self-Assessment. I made some adjustments to the Observation Calendar. Please click on the link to see if Elkins or Gardner is your observer this year. 2026-2027 Observation Calendar. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out.

    • August Character Trait is Polite Panda
    • August GC name due by 8/26 (We are always going to try to do the last Wednesday of the month so that we can make the announcement and take the picture on Thursday.  This is because the Media Center is free first period on Thursdays. Thanks for your help with this!)
    • CLICK THIS LINK FOR THE SPREADSHEET
    • Good Citizen student gets a panda key chain and a coin for the book machine.  I will place the panda key chain in your box, and you can grab the coin from the vault when the student is ready to get a book from the machine.

  • Referring a student to Ceglowski.
    • Please us this FORM to make referrals.  Please use this form even if we have discussed the student in person, by text, or email.  It will help me keep track and keep me honest!  Last year I got 15 referrals through the form, and I am positive I saw way more than 15 students.  ;)

  • Classroom Guidance
    • Please use this LINK to sign up for a classroom guidance lesson.  I have added Thursdays so you can book, Monday, Wednesday or Thursday.  Please note that I am the backup sub for the Discovery Den and may need to change a booking due to coverage needs.

Digital Progress Reports & Report Cards (from District): Beginning in the 2026–2027 school year, WS/FCS will transition to providing digital access for student report cards and progress reports. This initiative aligns our practices with peer districts of similar size across the state while ensuring families have ongoing, year-round access to their child’s academic records through Infinite Campus. Read the full memo here.

Homeroom Attendance (from Ms. True): Great job with attendance this week! Only 5 more days of paper rosters and me asking for your blue folder! Please remember to sign and date each day. Please also remember that if you receive a dojo excuse for an absence, please screenshot and forward to me for the files. Thank you ladies, awesome job!

Yearbook (from Ms. Bullins): I will be taking over the yearbook this year. I will be collecting pictures throughout the year to help make our yearbook special. Please send pictures from your classroom to me by email or upload them directly to your grade-level folder on Google Drive. I will be sharing a Google Drive folder with each grade level where you can upload your class pictures as well as any other pictures you'd like. Please make sure a class picture is uploaded or emailed to me by October 30. If you have any questions, please feel free to send me a text (336-894-3162) or email. Thank you for all of your help!

Week of August 3 - 7

Hey Panda Family,

Ready or not, here they come! 🐼 I can't wait for the first day of school on Monday to welcome all of our students back. I want us all to work to be the best teammate that we can be this year as we work together to meet our students' needs and help them grow. Together Everyone Achieves More! There is a lot of information in this Weekly Wrap, so please make sure to read through it all. Have a wonderful weekend!😊

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Building Open This Weekend: The building will be open this weekend from 8:00 - 5:00 each day if you want to work in your classroom. This is voluntary. The alarm will not be on so everyone can access their room. There will be no air conditioning.

Opening Staff Meeting Link: Here is the link to the Opening Staff Meeting slides. Please reference these slides for all beginning of the year information: Opening Staff Meeting 2026

First Day of School Arrival: We are requiring all parents to sign in on the first day of school before they walk their child to class. The only adjustment I am going to make for the first day is we are going to allow all students to report straight to their class beginning at 7:45. This will allow us to get parents in and out quicker on this first day. Bus riders will also report straight to class on the first day only. On the second day of school (August 11), parents and students will have to wait until the 8:05 bell. On the second day we will also station all car riders and bus riders in the gym until the 8:05 bell. In short, the second day will operate as normal.

First Days of School: Make sure to spend the first few days next week building relationships, setting the foundation for your classroom community, practicing expectations and procedures, and setting the tone for a wonderful year. Definitely get into your instruction next week, but make sure you lay the classroom culture foundation first! Here is a link to the PBIS Refresher with helpful information for setting those expectations: PBIS Refresher (please read!)

Morning Duty: We will need all hands on deck for morning arrival the first week. Please make sure you are at your duty on time.

Announcements: Announcements will be over the intercom during the first few weeks of school. We will let you know when video announcements will begin.

Specials: Specials will operate as normal day one.

Outdoor Recess: Please remember and adhere to the hot weather guidelines below. If the “feels like” temperature is above 90 degrees, all outdoor school activities are cancelled.  This applies to physical education, recess, PTA events, outdoor art classroom, field day, etc. The attached weather chart and the Winston Salem weather station are what we generally use for hot/cold weather play decisions. We will let you know if the weather is too hot or too cold to go outside.

In general, on the attached chart:
  • Green requires no precautions.
  • Yellow requires appropriate clothing  for cold weather, close monitoring of activity, and 30 minute time limits.
  • Red is not appropriate for outdoor play/activity at school

Attendance: All homeroom teachers will take attendance in Infinite Campus and on your paper copy the first 10 days of school. Ms. True will come by and collect your paper copy each day. After the tenth day of school the paper copy will go away.

Transportation: Please see the important transportation reminders below.

  • know how your students are going home on the first day of school.
  • grades K-1 - teacher assistants will help their grade levels reach out to parents/families of students who do not know how they are getting home on the first day of school.
  • grades 2-5 - a support staff member will come to your grade level the first day to make sure we know how all students are going home.
    • 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th - Ceglowski
  • Have a list ready of those students you do not know their transportation arrangements so calls can be made

Canvas & Lesson Plans: Please make sure you share your Canvas page with me and Leslie. Lesson plans should be posted to Canvas each week.
