Week of 8/31 - 9/4

Hey Panda Family,

We made it through the first month! I am proud of the teamwork that I am seeing in each grade level and department throughout our building. The thing that I love the most is y'all are making it a priority: a priority to meet as a grade level team, a priority to strategize and problem solve with each other, and a priority to be open to new ideas. As we head into the Labor Day weekend I will leave you with a quote: "The strength of the team is each individual member. The strength of each individual member is the team." - Phil Jackson (Legendary NBA Coach)

Have a wonderful weekend! 🐼

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Dibels/Mclass Window: The Dibels/Mclass window has been extended and now closes next Friday, September 11. Please make sure you have assessed all the required probes with your students by then.

Lockdown Drill: Our lockdown drill will be on Thursday, September 10 @ 9:30. Please see the new information regarding lockdown procedures.
  • Parent Communication
    • In the Parent weekly Dojo message, Elkins will include a notification that the school will be conducting a lockdown drill during the upcoming week. This will help ensure families are aware that a drill will take place.
  • Staff Notification
    • Law enforcement may be on campus to assist with the drill.
  • Lockdown Drill Process
    • The SSEM Team and maybe Law Enforcement will assist administrators with walking through the building and checking classrooms. The process will be as follows:
  1. We will walk up to each classroom door and verify that the door is locked.
  2. If possible, we will look through the door window to confirm that we do not see anyone outside of the expected lockdown position.
  3. We will then open the door, look inside, and ask if everything is okay.
  4. We will give the teacher/staff members a thumbs-up and close the door.
  5. We will proceed to the next classroom.

Everyone should remain in the lockdown position until all classrooms have been checked. The drill should not be considered complete simply because an individual classroom has been checked.
Once all classrooms have been checked, an appropriate announcement can be made indicating that the lockdown drill is over.

Progress Reports: All grades need to be updated in Infinite Campus by next Friday, September 11. Progress reports will be digital this year and all parents will go into Parent Portal to check their child's progress.

Go Far (from Ms. Fox): GoFar run club starts Wednesday, September 9th. All runners will report to the gym at 3:15 for our first practice. After that they will report to the track for all other practices at 3:15. We have GoFar run club every Monday and Wednesday until November 9th. Please look for Ms. Fox's email for the list of participants. All staff are welcome to join us on these days for a walk/run 🙂

Skye Therapy Dog (from Ms. Ceglowski): We are getting a visit from Skye, our district's therapy dog, on September 18th from 9AM to 11AM.

For this first visit, we are going to make this a treat for the staff only.  Skye is an excellent listener and gives the best cuddles.  She is very intuitive and can tell who needs her most and gets to work being adorable! We'd like everyone to get a chance to spend about 10-15 minutes with her.  I know that some will need help with coverage because you don't have lunch, recess, or specials between 9-11AM.  Please indicate in the form if you need coverage and I'll make a plan.  Click HERE for the interest and coverage request form.

Also please indicate on the form and/or reach out to me if you are afraid of dogs or have an allergy and we will make a plan for that as well.

Join PTA: Alright team, I need your help. We only have 26 staff that have signed up for PTA. That is well below half of our staff. We can do better than this to show our support! If you haven't done so already, please make sure you join PTA to show your support. It is really important to me that they know how much we appreciate them, and this is one simple way to do just that. Here is the link to join: Join PTA

Kernersville Education Grant: It’s that time to apply for education grants! Deadline is November 1. Here is the link: https://www.kernersvillenc.com/education#Grant

Happy Birthday: Please join me in celebrating our birthdays for the month of September 🎂
  • September 2 - Happy Birthday to Kristen Biance!
  • September 3 - Happy Birthday to Lana Panico!
  • September 4 - Happy Birthday to Jessica Medley!
  • September 7 - Happy Birthday to Kendall Rinfrette!
