Week of 9/21 - 9/25

Hey Panda Family,

As the school year continues to ramp up and there are more events that begin to occur (field trips, picture day, drills, testing, etc.) please remember to protect your core instructional time in Reading & Math every day. If we are intentional with the instructional time that we have it will make a huge difference in the long run with our students' growth. Some of these events are just a part of every day life in a school, but the more we can prioritize our core instructional time even on these event days the better we will prepare our students for their end of year assessments. Thanks for all your hard work this week and I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Enjoy the Fall Festival if you come 🍂

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Fire Drill: Our monthly fire drill will be on Monday, September 28 @ 2:30.

Picture Day: School picture day is Tuesday, September 29. Pictures will be in the Media Center. I will be sending out picture day payment information to parents this weekend via Dojo. Here is a link to the picture day schedule: Picture Day Schedule.

PBIS Presentation: The PBIS Committee has created a quick presentation for you to share with your class in lieu of the PBIS assembly that we decided to cancel this year. Please review this presentation with your class next week. It goes over the PBIS events for the year and the possible consequences if students make poor choices. Here is the presentation: PBIS Presentation

Please take some time during your day to review it with your students. For most of the presentation you'll talk through the points. Here are a few ideas and/or reminders:

  • Review any specific issues your class has been having when you discuss PAWS Laws
  • 3 checks on a Paw Form in a week requires a Dojo message or phone call (preferred method) to parent
  • We'll send specific information about each spirit week's dress up days, but for October:
    • Oct. 26: Panda Pride (wear panda gear)
    • Oct. 27: Lettuce Celebrate Good Behavior (salad dressing day - examples include RANCHer, FRENCHman, thousand ISLAND shirt)
    • Oct. 28: Inside Out Day (wear all same color)
    • Oct. 29: Walk with Kindness (crazy socks)
    • Oct. 30: Book Character Day
  • The date(s) and movie for our April event are still TBD.
  • Explain that students won't be able to do every event. Help them understand budgeting and saving.
  • Some teachers use crossed fingers for restroom, others use ASL for toilet (make t with thumb between pointer and middle fingers, rotate wrist)
  • Give Me Five can be done by saying the phrase or simply raising your hand

Positive Communication Log: Please make sure you share your Positive Communication Log with me before the end of the quarter. Remember, all students should receive at least one Pandagram by the end of 1st Quarter. Fill that parent bucket with positive messages, so when you do have to reach out because the student made a poor choice it isn't the first time the parent is hearing from you. Thanks!

Professional Development Survey: This year we are going to work as a school to offer targeted in-house professional development for our staff. We need your help as we begin to plan. If you could please complete this Professional Development Survey by today, Friday, September 25. Here is a link to the survey: Professional Development Survey

Panda Chef PBIS Event: Our first PBIS event, Panda Chef, will be on Friday, October 9 in the cafeteria. Here is the schedule:

  • 3-5, 1:45-2:10
  • K-2, 2:15-2:40

The cost is 65 Paw Bucks.

Please enter the number of students attending (and any food allergies) in this spreadsheet by Thursday, October 1: Panda Chef Spreadsheet

Nurse Carolyn: Nurse Carolyn Green will be our new school nurse. She will be here on Tuesdays & Thursdays each week. Please welcome her to our school! Here is her contact information:

Baby Shower: Please join us in celebrating Mrs. Bullins as her and her husband welcome their first child. Her baby shower will be September 29 @ 3:30 in the Media Center.

Thoughts & Prayers: Please keep Ms. Owens and her family in your thoughts and prayers. Her mom has been in the hospital this week and she isn't doing well. A text of encouragement would go a long way for Ms. Owens right now.

Shoutouts: From Ms. Rempe - Today, one of my students didn't know if the parent put money on the account or she lost $20.  Luckily, Ms. Jones heard about the tragedy and came to our rescue before I could find out.  Thank you Ms. Jones for making a little girl so happy!

  • September 3 - Happy Birthday to Lana Panico!
