Week of 8/11 - 8/15

Hey Panda Family,

Thank you for an amazing first week! In spite of all the uncertainty and angst surrounding our district at this moment, you put on your best smile and best attitude this week to make sure our students had a wonderful first three days of school. I know it may be hard, but just focus on the things you can control: how we support each other, how we take care of our students, and being prepared for each day. Y'all make me so proud! Have a wonderful weekend. 😊

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Staff Meeting: Our August Staff Meeting will be next Tuesday, August 19 @ 3:30 in the Media Center. The purpose of this meeting is to finish the few items that we didn't get to in our opening meeting. Please see the staff meeting agenda below:

EC Pullout Groups: All EC pullout groups will begin next week.

ESL Groups: All ESL groups will begin the week of August 25.

Join PTA: If you haven't done so already, please make sure you join PTA to show your support. They do so much for our school. Here is the link to join: Join PTA

Class Schedule: Please make sure your daily class schedule is posted outside your door by next Friday, August 22.

Guidance Lessons (from Ms. Ceglowski): I'm excited to get started visiting classrooms for Guidance Lessons.  If you haven't already, please sign up using this link.

MTSS Intervention Groups: Please see the MTSS updates below.

  • Mrs. Barnes will pull students next week to gather baseline information.  Baseline information will also be used from DIBELS BOY data.
  • Mrs. Barnes's schedule will begin August 25.  She will serve Tier 3 students and Read-to-Achieve (4th grade) students only.
  • More information on MTSS Tier 2 plans to come.

Outdoor Recess: Please remember and adhere to the hot weather guidelines below. If the “feels like” temperature is above 90 degrees, all outdoor school activities are cancelled.  This applies to physical education, recess, PTA events, outdoor art classroom, field day, etc. The attached weather chart and the Winston Salem weather station are what we generally use for hot/cold weather play decisions. We will let you know if the weather is too hot or too cold to go outside.

In general, on the attached chart:
  • Green requires no precautions.
  • Yellow requires appropriate clothing  for cold weather, close monitoring of activity, and 30 minute time limits.
  • Red is not appropriate for outdoor play/activity at school

Canvas Page: Please make sure you share your Canvas page with me and Leslie. Lesson plans should be posted to Canvas each week. Please make sure your Canvas page is shared with me and Leslie by Friday, August 22.

Good News: Our parents and families are amazing! Through our direct donation drive we have already raised $4,805 to help offset some of the loss of instructional funds from the district!

Week of 8/4 - 8/8

Hey Panda Family,

Welcome back! I am so excited to EXPLORE this school year with each of you. The Weekly Wrap will continue to serve as your go-to resource for all pertinent information. Please make sure you read it each Friday so you are prepared for the upcoming week. 🐼 Have a wonderful weekend!

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Building Open This Weekend: The building will be open this weekend if you want to work in your classroom. This is voluntary. The alarm will not be on so everyone can access their room. There will be no air conditioning.

Opening Staff Meeting Link: Here is the link to the Opening Staff Meeting slides. Please reference these slides for all beginning of the year information: Opening Staff Meeting 2025

Open House: All staff will work on Monday, August 11. You may flex your hours this day since we will be staying late for Open House. All staff should work their full eight hours, but you are free to break up these hours however best fits your schedule. If you are a Classified Staff member please make sure to fob in and out each time you leave if you are breaking up your hours. Open House is from 4:00 - 6:30.

Say Something Reporting: Here is a link to the Say Something Reporting page. The Say Something Anonymous Reporting System is a platform and safe space for students and concerned adults to provide information about individuals threatening or displaying at-risk behaviors for potential violence or self-harm. Here is the link: Say Something Reporting

First Day of School Arrival: We are requiring all parents to sign in on the first day of school before they walk their child to class. The only adjustment I am going to make for the first day is we are going to allow all students to report straight to their class beginning at 7:45. This will allow us to get parents in and out quicker on this first day. Bus riders will also report straight to class on the first day only. On the second day of school (August 14), parents and students will have to wait until the 8:05 bell. On the second day we will also station all car riders and bus riders in the gym until the 8:05 bell. In short, the second day will operate as normal.

First Days of School: Make sure to spend the first few days next week building relationships, setting the foundation for your classroom community, practicing expectations and procedures, and setting the tone for a wonderful year. Definitely get into your instruction next week, but make sure you lay the classroom culture foundation first! Here is a link to the PBIS Refresher from today with helpful information for setting those expectations: PBIS Refresher

Morning Duty: We will need all hands on deck for morning arrival the first week. Please make sure you are at your duty on time.

Announcements: Announcements will be over the intercom during the first week and a half of school. We hope to have video announcements ready beginning August 25.

Specials: Specials will operate as normal day one.

Attendance: All homeroom teachers will take attendance in Infinite Campus and on your paper copy the first 10 days of school. Ms. True will come by and collect your paper copy each day. After the tenth day of school the paper copy will go away.

Transportation: Please see the important transportation reminders below.

  • know how your students are going home on the first day of school.
  • grades K-1 - teacher assistants will help their grade levels reach out to parents/families of students who do not know how they are getting home on the first day of school.
  • grades 2-5 - a support staff member will come to your grade level the first day to make sure we know how all students are going home.
    • 2nd & 3rd - Barnes
    • 4th & 5th - Guffey
  • Have a list ready of those students you do not know their transportation arrangements so calls can be made

Canvas & Lesson Plans: Please make sure you share your Canvas page with me and Leslie. Lesson plans should be posted to Canvas each week.

Good News: Ms. Epperley is a grandmother!
