Hey Panda Family,
24 days left for this school year! I want each of us to make the days count while counting down the days. This time of the year the gas light on our energy tank may be beginning to flicker, but our car is still cruising to the finish line. As testing begins next week be the cheerleader and motivator your students need. Create a comforting test environment that helps relieve their stress so they can do their best. All of your hard work is going to pay off and I can't wait to celebrate their growth. I am so proud of each of you, but keep pushing. We are almost there! Have a wonderful weekend! 🐼
Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:
New Updates
Congratulations!: Congratulations to Nurse Pearman and her husband! They welcomed their new baby girl Kylie this week. Another congratulations to Ms. Vance and her family! Her grandson, Lux, was born this past week as well. We are so happy for each of you! 😊
Student Behavior: Whew! Dig deep these last few weeks to manage some of the behaviors that come out this time of the year. Y'all are doing great, but consider using some of these strategies to help mitigate unwanted behaviors from popping up:
- Brainstorm with your teammates on ways you can give certain students a break in a different environment - allow a student to spend part of the day with another teacher on the grade level. It is amazing what a different voice and environment can do to help after 150 days. Switching students is also a great strategy for instructional review.
- Have tight supervision during unstructured times - specifically at lunch, recess, and arrival/dismissal. These times that are more unstructured are ideal opportunities for students to make poor behavior choices.
- Have proactive communication with your parents. For example, send them a Dojo message that reads, "We are on the home stretch for this school year! With only a few weeks left we want to make sure students stay focused, make good choices, and follow our PAWS laws so we can finish the year strong and show all the amazing academic growth we made this year on our end of year assessments! Thank you so much for your help at home echoing this message to your child so they have a great day. I really appreciate your support!" This is just an example, but proactive messaging really helps!
Progress Reports: Progress reports were scheduled to go home today; however, I know the past two weeks have been extremely busy. So much so, I forgot to send a reminder message about progress reports. If you didn't send them home today, please make sure they go home in next week's Friday Folder at the latest. I did my first gradebook check today for 4th quarter and overall it doesn't look bad, but we want to make sure we keep those grades updated. Thank you!
iReady Diagnostics: Don't forget to unhide your diagnostic next week when you are ready for your students to test. After May 17, weekly iReady lesson completion is no longer required.
EOY Testing Incentives (K-5 teachers): EOY testing begins next week with iReady Reading Diagnostic. Please make sure you read and review the email I sent this week with the testing incentives. Talk these incentives up with you students, use them as motivation, and let them feed of your positive energy. I can't wait to see their amazing growth!
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week: Next week is Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week! We can't wait to celebrate you. We have worked with PTA to put together a fun week 😊 See the details below.
Test Training Follow-Up from Ms. Lloyd: Thank you so much for coming to the training and actively participating! I appreciate each one of you and the effort you put forward to making our testing go smoothly! Each time we test, I am so very thankful that I work at Piney Grove and how much everyone is so willing to help and that each of you understands the importance of Test Security and does their part to make sure that we do what is required. I appreciate the calm environment that we can provide for our students during testing.
Next - here is the link to log onto NC TEST : https://center.ncsu.edu/ncauth/
Please log on and make sure that your password works!
Lastly - On test days, everyone that is administrating a test will stay with the students they are testing in their testing location for the entire testing session. This is for ALL small groups and classes. An assigned adult will come around and give you breaks. When you are done testing, a test admin can stay in your class while you turn in your test materials and then you will go back and stay with your group until you are told that you are done. When small groups are finished, the students will stay will the test administrator until they have been told they can return to their classroom. This is different from NC Check In's.
PLEASE, PLEASE do not hesitate to come to me with any questions. Again, Thank you so much for all your help!
Bridal Shower for Ms. Lovell: We hope you can join us to celebrate Ms. Lovell's wedding engagement on May 15! See the graphic below for full details. Kirsten and Jordan are registered on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/wedding/share/CallieJordan
