Week of March 30 - April 3

Hey Panda Family,

What a beautiful day for a Fun Run! Your energy, participation, and spirit over these past two weeks helped make this the most successful Boosterthon fundraiser to date for Piney Grove. Our final total raised was $37,885. We will use this money for our bike program, instructional items for your classrooms as we prepare for next school year, your PTA classroom allowances, student incentives, and so much more! Enjoy your long weekend and I hope everyone has a Happy Easter!🐇

Here are the Weekly Wrap updates for this week:

New Updates

Allotment 2026-2027 Update: I received most of our allotment for next school year in my principal's meeting yesterday. It is definitely way better than it was in the summer/fall when we had to make all the cuts due to the budget crisis. I am currently working through what I have, and I hope I will have all pieces by next week so I can give a more detailed update to the School Improvement Team at our next meeting. I also plan to share a brief presentation at our April staff meeting for everyone. I appreciate your patience as I work through all our numbers, strategize any changes that will need to be made, and prepare for next year.

PBIS Sports Day: Sports Day is on Friday, April 17. The cost is 150 Paw Bucks. During Sports Day students from East Forsyth HS come play with our kiddos in a variety of sports stations and one drama station🙂(cheer/dance, flag football, relay races, softball/baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, and theatre/drama). Each child will participate in two stations. K-1 stations will be from 12:00-12:45 and 2-5 stations will be from 1:15-2:20. (We will send out a modified lunch schedule later on.)

Instead of entering the number of students participating in Sports Day, you'll need to complete this Google Form (https://forms.gle/ft8Xj9m3H6mkLqdw6) for each child participating. They will choose three stations they're interested in so we can hopefully place them in two stations they want to participate in. (Please explain this to your students so they're not disappointed by not doing all three.)

We need all student info submitted through the Google Form by the afternoon April 2.

April 6: Just a reminder that April 6 is now a regular school day. This is a makeup day from when we were out for weather.

Spring Pictures: All students will take Spring Pictures with Lifetouch on Tuesday, April 7 in the Media Center. Here is the schedule: Spring Picture Schedule

PTA Meeting: The April PTA Meeting will be on Tuesday, April 7 @ 6:00 in the Media Center.

ELA Check-In #3 (from Ms. Guffey): It is time for our Reading Check-in #3. We will test on Wednesday, April 8 and Thursday, April 9. Materials may be picked up in my room before school. When you complete the ROAs please include how the students use the accommodation, how much time they take on the test, and how much time they use compared to other students testing in the room. Some students will have 2 ROAs (one for IEP and one for LEP). Please complete and sign both forms.

Please review the testing plan for locations and group: Testing Plan (you must be logged into your WSFCS account to view the document.
  • Testers 4/8: 3rd-grade teachers (except Bullins and Coleman), 4th-grade teachers, 5th-grade teachers, Landis, Pereda, Barnes, Vermilyea, Seely, Russell, Postle, Flynn, Lawson, Idol, and Gardner

EOG Information (from Ms. Guffey): I cannot believe that it is already time to talk about EOGs, but I wanted to share some important information. The EOG window is May 12 - May 26 and we will most likely have testing during all of those days. Everyone will get trained because we will need all hands-on deck. There is a high likelihood that we will need K-2 teachers to assist with testing.

EOG test training will take place during PLT time:
April 20 8:30, 9:20, 12:05, 1:45, and 3:30
April 22 10:10, 11:00, and 12:55
Please plan to attend one of the above sessions.

Testing Code of Ethics and Proctor training will be held during the staff meeting on April 21.

We will have retesting this year. Remediation is not required. Parent permission will be required. 3-5 students who score Not Proficient will complete the Retake. 3rd Grade students who score Not Proficient on Reading will take the Read to Achieve in place of the reading retake. If the retest score is higher than the initial score it will be used for achievement calculations and growth analyses.

Testing schedule:
May 12 - Reading EOG (3-5)
May 13 - Reading EOG make-ups
May 14 - Math EOG (3-5)
May 15 - Math EOG make-ups
May 18 Science EOG (5th grade)
              Read to Achieve (3rd grade)
              EOG Reading Retest (4th grade)
May 19 EOG Reading Retest (5th grade)
              Science EOG make-ups
May 21 EOG Math Retest (3-5)
May 22 EOG Science Retest (5th grade)

All materials on walls, cabinets, etc. must be removed or covered by May 1.

Grade 3-5 homeroom teachers will need to review the online tutorial and turn in a roster (which I will provide) with the day (dates) you completed the tutorial with your signature by May 1. If a student enrolls after you do the tutorial, you must complete it with them so we can add their name to our documentation.

Please let me know if you have any questions/concerns.

Thank you for your continued support, understanding, and flexibility.
